Hello All,
I’d like to add a rolling block rifle to my arsenal. I generally acquire shootable-collectors and would like a rolling block in about the same condition. It seems fairly easy to pick up a nice rolling block in .43 Spanish, but it looks like if I want to shoot it I’ll have to give up some other vices as loaded ammo runs up near $4/cartridge. Ouch!

Anybody discover a vault of 43 spanish ammo? Reloading isn’t all that affordable either. Maybe I should only be looking at 50-50 caliber. I like 45-70 as a caliber, but those all appear to be new, reproduction rifles such as Pedersoli, Uberti and Tippmann. Correct?

There were a lot of them made in 7X57.

There's a few .50-70s floating around for not a ton of money. This one's at Cabelas

Thanks guys, both the 50-70 and the 7x57 are on my radar. I was hoping for somebody to chime in that has had good experiences with a specific caliber.

simpsonltd has a fair amount of rolling block rifles for sale. Mostly odd calibers, but the prices arent bad

I have one in 22RF, 7x57, 32-20, and 45-70. Not for sale though.

Do you shoot the 7x5? Do you shoot Prvi 7mm mauser ammo? Any headspace or pressure issues?

I have rolling blocks in Husqvarna 33 in 8x58 R Saur, Number 1 in 40-70 SBN, Number 4, 6 and 7 in 22 LR and a Husqvarna model 12 rebarreled to 40-70 sharps straight. The 40-70 SS is very accurate but I would recommend something in a 45-70. The components are endless and it is more versatile.

I am still looking for dies and brass for the 8x58 R Sauer if any one know of a source.

I would not be shooting Privi 7x57 ammo in a rolling block! I would suspect it is way too hot for that action.

I certainly like the idea of a rolling block in 45-70. I have a trapdoor that shoots “GOVT.” rounds very well. Problem is, it seems that all of the 45-70 rollers are modern replicas...

I had a 7mm I bought for $35 that I bubba'd into this .45-70 via a Numrich Arms kit in the early '70s.

I've owned a couple of Remington 1902 RBs in 7x57 that would have graded in the mid-90's. No matter how good they looked, I never trusted their strength and gas handing enough to ever feel comfortable shooting them.

Several years ago a fellow gun head picked up a Remington RB in 30-40 Krag, didnt even know they existed in that caliber until I saw it. It shot ok, nothing spectacular. He traded it pretty quick to a collector if I remember correctly
