If North Koreans are experiencing famine and are conditioned to be dependent on the state, that sounds like an obligation most countries might pass on due to the sheer cost and burden on resources and infrastructure. Might they just press for more cordial relations between the two countries?

How could SK afford to integrate 25 million impoverished, uneducated people? It would bankrupt them. NK people have lived under a long string of tyrants. They have no idea what freedom means.

At least 80% of the world has no concept of real freedom. They're hard-wired to accept domination by whatever bully happens to be in power at the moment. That's been true throughout recorded history, and exceptions to the rule like Greece, Rome, and yes, America seem to be short-lived exceptions that prove the rule.

Look at the problems Germany had with reunification, and that was a European nation not as isolated as NK.
Besides, China wont allow it, NK is a buffer against a non communist and US aligned SK.

I'd bet that all along the NORKS have had a backup plan in place in case dear leader suddenly was out of the picture. Or at least a short list of those who could fight it out to become the new chosen one.

That is very true here in south FL. For example, We have central and south Americans who come here, never knowing about or understanding the 2nd Amendment. It may be tha the is sheltering-in-place from the Corona-Virus. This could explain his absence, although he could communicate to the people via TV and radio.

If think this is why China has no interest in taking them either. Why bring another however many million impoverished uneducated mouths to an already overpopulated table?
