Nice. However my experience with 90gr scenars was, contrary to what I've read here, zero expansion and a long chase to a live deer.

My experience also with Scenar. Hogs go hiking off after a broadside shot. Find them 400 yards away. Won't burst a full milk jug. This from a medium .30-06 load. A friend of mine shot a doe with a .240 Weatherby with a Scenar and blew her into gelatin. I guess speed makes 'em work.

Yes - very good bullet. I’ve done some “tests” while culling does - shooting them at all angles, in the shoulder, behind the shoulder, etc. All net the same result - quarter-sized exits and dead deer in 0-40 yards. They work great on hogs, too.

Around here, I can't see anything better for a youth than a 6.5CM or 7mm-08 if you are a handloader. If you want to make a .243 out of them, grab some 100gr 6.5mm TTSX or the 110gr 7mm version. I've seen both be great killers. Then you have the ability to "move up" as a child grows, if you ever need to. I just prefer the bigger exits and better blood trails of the typical 6.5mm and 7mm bullets when comparing them to the 6mm results. Not that the 6mm doesn't work, I just think the bigger bullets work better.

Yep, dogzapper told some stories years ago about Gail Root designing that bullet for killing deer.

Pretty happy with the recoil of 87gr recoil lite ammo with a 6lb all up 243.

It’s just a tad more recoil pulse then 77gr 223 rounds.

Get an 8” piece of steel and load up a ton of blue dot loads and get the giggles watching the wee one connect dots from some percentage of half a mile.
