Good time to support a local saw shop, if you have one near.

It's gotta be sticky to be good🙂

Ill be the outlier. On my old Stihl 031AV, I use used motor oil for the bar and run it WFO. The chain and bar is well oiled .

I use motor oil as well. It makes a mess, I don’t care.

Not even used oil. The fresh stuff! 😲

See if one can scratch up a user manual. Such might give one an idea on approximate use. A couple Stilhs in my stable use a tank of oil for every tank of fuel. Two of my old ProMacs go two tanks of fuel for every tank of oil.

For a warmed up saw, your streaks look about right for maybe 5 seconds of high throttle run.

As long as the oil reservoir doesn't run empty in less than a tank of gas I wouldn't worry about it.The next time you need bar oil I'd try a different brand might be a little thicker don't buy winter oil.Or you could put a little STP in your oil I never did but know people who have.

I friend of mine works for our state highway admin (Maryland). They exclusively us Automatic Transmission Fluid for all of there chainsaw bar lube. I asked why and he advised that ATF does not thicken up in cold temps and works as well as any bar oil. Cost would be my question? Also, they purchase ATF in 55 gal drums. So they use a lot of it. I would think it would be to thin in warn temps and not last as long as thicker viscosity oils. I wonder if you could mix the two to thin out the viscosity and still prolong bar/ chain life.

ATF for bar lube. That is fascinating. Never heard of that one.

Motor oil is too thin and it's expensive.

Bar oil is thick and sticky and it's cheaper.

Down in Texas its hot so make sure your using the proper chain oil for the season. If your chain oil is too light then I put in some STP and mix it with the cheaper chain oil, it works good.
Good chain oil here is about 13 bucks a gallon...cheap stuff is 9 bucks.....so with the STP I am still ahead.
