Met him once. Seemed like a nice fellow. Got a copy of his autographed book around here somewhere. RIP Sir.

He is a guy that's "been there, done that." That counts in my book.

Spent 4 days as one of his students, He was an absolutist concerning surgical accuracy and strict gunhandling safety. He was my model for many years on how to run a tight yet efficient range. RIP Chuck.

Always looked forward to his column in COMBAT HANDGUNS magazine. Was influential and made the world a better place with his writing and training.

He tortured hell out of a Glock 17 over a bunch of years. Somewhere around 450,000 rounds in a very wide set of conditions.

gunsite is just north of prescott, outside of chino valley. a family member owned a section of land next to gunsite, so i was somewhat familar with cooper, he banked with us. there was a loose assocation of people drawn to prescott, mostly due to david wolfe, wolfe publisher, i.e handloader mag. That included cooper, J&G Sales, Dr Howell, bunch of others. there were a number of retired S.F. types connected. Ruger moved there too primarily because of wolfe.
guns trade somewhat person to person from the people in the area, and a few in my collection were at one time owned by chuck taylor. I had heard through the rumor mill he had a secret range south of town where he did a lot of his testing, eventually found the place. from looking at it you couldn't tell it was a range, until you spotted the distance range markers that were hidden. I from an imperfect memory think it was one of his rifles i was playing with one day in for some repair work. a fiberglass stock short barrel .416 remington magnum with iron sights, used when you had to go in the brush after something that could bite you. I remember thinking at the time i would have to be really motivated to fire the darn thing.
he did some interesting early testing with glocks as i remember.
the one gun i have attributed to him as i remember off the top of my head, is a revolver.
r.i.p.

one of my perks at the bank was i had to make business calls. i was about the only banker in town that was a gun whore, so it was natural to pick up a lot of related accounts. and make business calls on wolfe. Great fun to get paid by the bank to sit around wolfe and listen to the stories being told by some of these guys that had actually been there, done that. You see there name in the magazines, but don't often know their real life experiences.
