Thin cut bone in pork chops in the crockpot. Boy, were they greasy. I should have trimmed them first. Lesson learned.

Ribs - barbecue sauce, doctored pork and beans, cabbage (red and green), carrot, and green onion salad with vinegar/oil/brown sugar dressing.

Amazing looking soil,Paul. I assume the bigger box in the pix further above will be for compost but why no treated wood ??

Denny, the other photo is the partially built box frames, before assembly, once the base was dug out. The chemicals in treated wood (CCA) are toxic & we wanted to go as organic as possible. Cedar, or Douglas fir would have certainly offered us longer life of the beds, as both are naturally rot resistant. Cost/availability of both were, very prohibitive !!!!!!!!!! Was going to use raw linseed oil to "stain/preserve", but could only source boiled, once again containing nasty chemicals. The black soil is a rich organic matter, mixed with loam & "marinated". Basically fully composted material & sand for drainage. Tex, lotsa good stuff, was Deb's answer !! Yep, she's a beauty & a keeper !

Here's what I can remember; 4 kinds of lettuce, 3 kinds of peppers, onions, cucumbers, cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, beets, asparagus, 2 kinds of taters & other root veges still to come. Building a half wide box to go beside the others, on the creek side - Current beds are 16'x4' beds, this one will be 16'x2 or 3', space dependant. I want to be able to mow between the boxes !
