OK, car, pickup, I start, check for filter leak. Back off ramps, I might check it then.
A family friend worked on the AlCan Highway, he said they never shut the diesels off even for an oil change. One man replaced the drain plug, another man on top started pouring in the oil. Probably didn't worry about a catch-pan for the oil either, just drain it out on the ground wherever they happened to be. Old-school dust control.

When the Murphy Switch shuts it off..... We run 5.7's continuously out here, Murphy's shut them down if oil gets low.....in theory. Usually works. We also run 20l of oil in them, using an auxiliary tank mounted on the back of the engine. Murphy level gauge controls that too. Not uncommon at all to go a few thousand hours between oil changes. We do run Cummins as well, but on natural gas instead of diesel, same oil setup. If I was running continuous use stationary engines I'd probably run a similar setup. 6l of oil in the pan, 14 litres in auxiliary tanks, with a huge Lubrifiner filter option. Can get 40 000+ hours on a good 5.7 running 1800-2000rpm, heavy load.
