I actually met Ben Johnson, 1972 I guess, was 15 and went up camp/fish with the group of folks we hung out with at the time. One family were large farmers in the Mesa area, went to school with some of them, dove hunted their fields, frog gigged their ponds...
We were up at Big lake, a big group, my buddy and I came back from fishing and walked into the trailer, a group of the men were sitting passing a whiskey bottle, one of the guys looked at us with a smile and asked if we wanted a sip handing the bottle.
No sir... thank you sir... we went in the back room and whispered, that's a movie star, he's in John Wayne movies... Ben Johnson.
He camped and fished a few days and was real nice to a couple young squirts.
