Wish they'd make a plain one in this caliber or .30-40 for those of us who don't need fancy nor fancy the high price!
My brother has a C. Sharps .30-40 1885 Hi-Wall which is a great gun on the range, but WAY too heavy for hunting. I have one in .44-40 that I cut down into a carbine just for that reason. Even with the big hole down the middle, their 28" #3 octagon barrel is like carrying a diggin' bar.... With 10" less barrel, it's great for the woods and brush and probably the most accurate .44-40 in captivity but not a rifle for hunting on the baldies....a .303 or .30-40 would be fine up there.

Nice shootin iron, CPA makes some nice single shots based on the Stevens 44-1/2 action. Not any cheaper however, but more caliber selection.
I acquired a 44-1/2 in a 30-40, hoping to take a moose with it one of these years...

I like that a lot. At 37.5" and 7 lbs that's about the same length and a tad lighter than a Ruger 1A. Looks like it's stocked well for open sights. The Weaver slotted rib kind of detracts from the overall visual appeal but not too badly and I can sure see the practicality of them, scoping a High Wall has always been somewhat problematic.
Don't know anything about the quality, they'd be hard pressed to match the current Mirokus, but folks who have their SAA and cap and ball clones seem to like them.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

That is a slick rifle. I see they offer a non-slotted rib as well.

I think it's slick too!
Not my first in caliber selection but I could live with it.

To me it looks like something a pox doctor's clerk would own.

Personally I'd like to get one of the Miroku Low Walls, and get it rebored & rechambered to .30-30.

Wish I'd kept mine in 7x57, it was a hell of a good shooter. Still, I'll coyly say that I'm satisfied with this attempt at an English stalking rifle.

303 British, are you kidding me? Nothing I'd not hunt in NA with a 303. Likely lots of other places but I don't travel any longer.

303 British, are you kidding me? Think of it as a .30-40 but with real history. John

Just in case anyone is interested, this is what an English stalking rifle should look like. No...not mine, more is the pity. OZ Gun Sales[ Linked Image]

I don’t understand why they used a classic American action to build an English stalking rifle, they should have just built something with classic American lines and given it an appropriate American name, either that or built a British type action for it.

Agree with that. I thought the same thing when I saw that rifle. Same goes for chamberings. American actions get American chamberings. M98s get Euro chamberings.

Yes except he F'd up and put the cheek piece on the wrong side! Ruger should pay attention to that. To hell with Ruger, Jim send that picture to Jason at Lipsey's! Jerry
