Speaking of 125gr NBT, I shot them today with 36,37, and 38gr of CFE223. 37gr shot the best at 50yds and achieved 2600fps. I plan to tweak the load in smaller increments and double check the length. Accuracy was 3/4" for 3 shots.

Thanks, Dinny

Here's what QuickLOAD has to say about it. I wish QL featured all the available powders, but it is what it is:

Code
artridge : .30-30 Win. (SAAMI)
Bullet : .308, 130, Hornady SP SSPistol 3021
Useable Case Capaci: 36.397 grain H2O = 2.363 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.550 inch = 64.77 mm
Barrel Length : 22.0 inch = 558.8 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 42000 psi, or 289 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 100 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

71 loads produced a Loading Ratio below user-defined minimum of 90%. These powders have been skipped.

I ran this again. I recently refreshed my system with a completely new OS and reinstalled QL just the other day. The minimum loading ratio was at 90% by default and I did not realize this when I originally posted. So, this may look a little different.

Code
Cartridge : .30-30 Win. (SAAMI)

I think he meant well and probably copied and pasted his reply from another thread in the levergun area.

With that being said, I'll take a friendly poke at him too. Afterall, he would expect it from me, a fellow combat medic.

Pictured below is my 9 shot (single shot rifle) magazine. grin

Thanks, Dinny

I shoulda been more specific....especially with old eagle eye Rustyzipper editing each poster....

I was referring that the bullet needed to be seated deep enough in the case to cycle thru a lever action...

that was the COAL for it to fit the factory chamber of an NEF....

yeah, we are fellow Medics.. but I'm an OLD medic, who is getting a short memory and over look things that I use to not do in my younger years...one nice thing about getting older tho... you aren't as sensitive about such stuff when you get older, because your 'really give a schitt" factor starts declining rapidly at some point...so now that ya know that....

if ya try out that 220 gr RN load with W 748, get ready for the fact it recoils a lot more than you would usually expect a 30/30 to...

Good question, Dinny. I've scanned over the user's manual and found no mention of it. My guess is that it has something to do with temperature sensitivity and temperature compensation.

According to an internet post where some had spoken to Ed Dillon, *T= temp stability and *C = copper reducing. This doesn't seem 100% though. Big Game powder is known for being temp stable but it doesn't have a *T next to it, so who knows.

Thanks, Dinny

I hope my poke didn't bother anybody. But I've been accused of being a bit abrasive. My sense of humor never fully developed. But working in a prison made me a bit thicker skinned. Be Well, Rustyzipper.

Found in a post on Accurateshooter:

Maybe this is correct, but I would have expected to see *T next to more Hodgdon powders, such as H4227, H4198, H4895, H322, Retumbo, and maybe a few others. It could be that my understanding of Hodgdon's chemistry and application of "Extreme" technology is poor.

I'm not too concerned, I just ignore it.

edit: I was composing this post as you were posting your own comment...looks like we both found the same info.

I'm not too sure of that. I'm getting just over 2600fps with CFE223 and sub-sub moa accuracy.

Thanks, Dinny
