after fighting the slide lock release lever trying to take the slide off a glock for the umpteenth time, went to brownells an ordered a new part.
easy instalation and a little longer and easier to work than the one that comes on the glock.
wish i had done that years ago.

That's the one thing I hate about Glocks. Back when they used a flat spring for it, it wasn't so bad, but now, with the Gen 5 they are using a coil spring, and it's damned hard to unlock. I've been tempted to replace it with the extended one for years, too.

In a way that's good to hear - that the issue lock is hard to operate. I've only dealt with Gen 5's and thought I was just uncoordinated... wink Might have to look into changing that.

The only change I'm making so far is installing the OEM extended slide release. The model 34 comes with one and it's so easy to operate I ordered one for the G17. That little nub at the back doesn't look like much but it really makes a difference.

Gen Fives are the worst. Gen Fours (and all previous Gens) are much easier to deal with, as it (they) used a leaf spring instead of the Gen 5 coil spring. What were they thinking changing to a coil spring??

As far as the standard, flat, Glock slide stop lever, I've never had a problem with them. I can operate them very easily, and see no need at all for an extended one. The slide LOCK lever, though, particularly on the Gen 5, is a PITA.

I've never had an issue, but I don't have a Gen5, nor have I ever felt the need to disassemble every couple of hundred rounds.

My current carry has @3500 rounds through it, haven't pulled the slide.

after i install these and see how i like them, all the glocks in the herd might get it.
this model 23 i was screwing with goes back to the first days of the 23, has a kkm barrell in 40 and a barsto in 357sig.
i have a .357 baby glock that has been difficult since day one. it's getting changed too.
on the 23 i also have a metal full length guide rod and heavy main recoil spring.
i think i am gonna take it apart and do one of those polish jobs on some of the internal parts, maybe not.
i have shot it so much through the years if you hold the trigger just right, it will fire a string.
and while i am at it, i think the factory sigihts are gonna go, replaced with night sights.

i bet it does. the heavy spring i have in this 23, that isn't easy to release.

kind of off the topic, but related to glocks, when i was digging around in the sanctorium, found a couple of boxes of winchester ranger 135gr jhp's. per you t ube, they are running just under 1200fps. I think i bought them after finding a similar round at the range in sierra vista where crossfireops use to hang out. i was told customs at the time was using that round.
never have fired any of them. think i am gonna have to find a watermelon or something to smack with them.
bein an old fossil, i have 155gr silvertips in them now, at about 1200fps according to lyman.
interesting enough to me, had a grandson watching me fiddle with these, handed him the model 33 first. then i handed him the 23 next which he much prefered in his hand. i carried that 23 for years, till i got on the small kick with the 33. one atvantage it does have is i have aftermarket kkm barrels in 357sig, .40s&w, and9mm, pick and chose.
but after thinking about it i think i like the feel of the 23 better.

that stippling on the handle is a good thing. i have a first generation 17 that is smooth as a baby's butt. i am gonna put a rubber sleeve on it, if your hands were sweaty or wet, would be hard to hang on too.

Non-existent problem, IMO.

I've never had any issue with any including G5's.

My short fat fingers had trouble releasing the take down. So I put replacements in both guns. It's amazing what a 3 MM extension does for my patience. No more torn up fingernails. I haven't considered extended slide releases. Be Well, Rustyzipper.

Not sure. It must be quite vexing, it has Ron talking to himself.

If one uses jacketed ammo Glock can be cleaned about every 1000 rounds. When carry is contemplated I clean the gun put few hundred through and put it into use w/o further cleaning.

Like no kidding Montana man. If people just got out and shot, all the ergonomic things would matter a lot less. It's a handgun, not an office chair. I slingshot my Glocks, so I don't care about the slide lock. Slavek, my G34-4 during training sessions for run-n-gun events goes about 3000 rounds before I clean it, maybe more. Only gets cleaned before the race. Literally, I shoot the $hit out of it. I'll get the barrel so hot it burns off the oil. I bought it to shoot it, if I wreck it, it's easily replaced $600 later. The thing has been ultra reliable.

To the OP, I never had a problem gripping the lock lever, but can see how part you found could make it easier to grab. Nice thing is it won't change anything pertaining to reliability.

There are a heck of a lot of people that won't shoot 1K rounds in a years time. So maybe he cleans every 1000 rounds or once a year, whichever comes first?
