Having thoughts on buying a 783 LA and doing the barrel swap over to a 280 AI. Is it as easy as swapping barrels on a savage? I have not done much research on them, but have read some decent things on them.

Would you guys happen to know the thread pattern? Would a savage barrel fit?

Same threads as Savage but the Savage bolt head depth is slightly different. The 783 threads and bolt head are the same as the Marlin X7. I know X-caliber, Shaw, and some others offer 783/X7 barrels.

I got mine in the marlin x7 pattern from mcgowen.

I have been able to use a couple of savage barrels on the x7, but you have to be careful that the chamber is not too deep. If it is, you will hit the bolt face with the back of the barrel before coming up tight on the headspace gauge. If the 783 is the same as the x7, it probably has the same concern.
