I’m planning I new rifle for next year. I’m looking at a rem model 7 and a 700 mountain rifle, also thinking about the model 700 compact then swapping the stock. Can I get some opinions for and against each?

Allot depends on what caliber you plan on running. Many more options for the 700 but still quite abit for the 7......
If it moves shoot it again!!

700 for the aftermarket support. This and I think the Mnt rifle will balance better than the M-7, generally speaking.

Perfect caliber in either the 700 or Model Seven. I have both. I'd do the newer Model Seven HS. Decent stock. Guy has one on here now in the classifieds that's a good deal. Stainless Model Seven with a McMillan stock.

Which cartridge? What game are you going to be shooting? Wooded areas on open areas?
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Having had the S/A Mtn rifle, can tell you it shot ok, but the factory B&C stock was bulky through the grip and heavy.
It was a 7-08, eventually re-barreled with Lilja #2 .308 WCF and added McM Hunrers Edge stock, now my favorite (but don't tell my 280 it thinks it is my favorite too)
Never cared for the Model 7's.

Both the M7 magnum model and Predator models have med weight 22" barrels and handle very nicely. I like mine. MB

Either or but with a 22" barrel for balance.

Ptg handle with badger mini knob on factory bolt. Lri fluted the bolt “wrought iron” pattern and coated graphite black.

There's nothing "redeeming" in a Seven and an OEM 700,of course struggles mightily in 7-08. Hint.
Slip in an AICS footprint DBM and feed it with binderless mags and nice thangs happen, due the new increase in COAL latitude. Hint.
The .284" 120's are lethargic, the 120 NBT in particular, with a sub .400 G1 BC. A Seex Kreedmire and factory Fodder crushes it,with less recoil and happily in OEM COAL latitudes. Hint.
I reckon it's easy for me to say, mainly because I shoot it all and then some. Hint.
Thank me later.
Just sayin'.

I'd take a Model 7 in 7-08 or .308. Ain't no mountains around here. I'm 250 miles from Mexico and there aint a hill over 10 feet high between here and there. So no need for a mountain rifle, LOL!
