In 1953 South Korea and Ghana had the same population, the same area, and both were low income nations and poverty stricken.

Today South Korea is a wealthy and competent nation with GDP many times higher than Ghana. Ghana remains poverty stricken.

Can you tell us why?

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.

My buddy Joe spent 40 years in S.Korea. 20 yrs military & 20 yrs. civilian contractor Following his retirement he brought his immediate as well as his extended Korean family (about 30 people)back to the states with him.

Within a generation all had college degrees and spoke with a neutral accent.

Compare the economic success of North vs South Korea. 70 years ago they were all 1 country. Things changed and the only difference is the form of government.

Only lion populations in West Africa were a remnant left in Bourkina Faso, there was a remnant elephant population left in Ghana, only about eighty miles as the pied crow flies from where I was. Me and a buddy walked past the edge of it in the rainy season on a ninety mile hike, where the elephants had been it was like somebody had driven a car through there through the elephant grass.

Just as well on the absence of lions thing, for a period of several months I was walking up the mountain two miles every evening to the next village to bathe and get drinking water, walking two miles back on the road through the forest after dark. None of the locals would willingly do that, didn't trouble me at all at the time.

They are very thankful to us however, for the silver rings for ears and noses, rather than having to use bones.

One time after the coup a local blowhard in the upper village told me I couldn't walk back down the mountain to my village after dark because the government had established a dusk to dawn curfew. Fugg him.

I navigated back home along bush paths by dead reckoning through the forest and past the subsistence plots, no flashlight or lantern. The moon was so bright that night, as it often was there, that your could've read a book by it, and see that the trees were green. Most spectacular of all were the huge cumulus formations, lit up by the moon like mountains in the sky cool
