I'm seeing a lot of these still for sale. Did Lipsey's lay an egg with this one?

To me, it’s a bad match in rifle style and cartridge. 7x57, 6.5x55, 9.3x62, and then 280 AI? I would have thought 30-06 way before that.

At least they got the twist about right: 1:8.5.

I wonder what .303 would have done? not as popular as 6.5x55 with American buyers now, but probably more authentic...... I agree .30-06 would have been a crowd pleaser
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....

Not at all. These just aren't flying off the shelf like the others were.

The .375 H&H,.416 Rigby or even the .404 Jeffery would be a better choice than the .280 AI. Yeah, when I think of classic African cartridges the .280 AI is right at the top.

Ruger should get with Kynoch ammo and come out with some real African cartridges instead of the .280 AI. http://www.kynochammunition.co.uk/cartridge%20collection.html

The 7x64 is the real .280.

A .318 would have been, as Ingwe says, skookum.

I'm seeing a lot of these still for sale. Did Lipsey's lay an egg with this one? Certainly not my pick for an African cartridge, but I'm sure it would work fine. I too think a .30-06 chambered in that rifle makes more sense. And if they really wanted to sell a schitt load, they'd chamber a .300 H&H...

Will it fit the M77 action?

I'm seeing a lot of these still for sale. Did Lipsey's lay an egg with this one? I don't know. Still seeing 6.5x55 Africans out there at prices below MSRP, and 9.3x62 just recently got hard to find (saw a NIB one at MSRP a few weeks ago). Not sure when they were released for sale, but have had at least a 1-2 year headstart.
