I was stationed with the National Guard in Florida City after Hurricane Andrew decimated Miami. We were allowed ammo, but the also deployed 82nd Airborne, being Federal troops, were not. Some bright reporter mentioned that in a story that was printed in the local newspaper. Within a week, they were robbed at gunpoint of several M4 rifles, Beretta M9 pistols, and even a SAW machine gun.
Yes. I am from Georgia, but my buddy Gary and I travelled to Louisiana to do relief work after Hurricane Andrew. Florida got all the press of that storm, but after it ransacked Florida, it went out into the Gulf, re-formed, and slammed in to LaFayette La. with 140 mph winds.
Gary and I were cutting trees off of peoples' roofs, we were working for free.
National Guard all over the place. I saw a Guardsman sitting on an upside down 5 gallon bucket, outside the WalMart. The roof had been blown off of the WalMart.
And I was talking to the guy, I asked him if they had ammo. He pulled his mag and showed it to me, he had 5 rounds.
