The New York Police Department (NYPD) has reportedly limited the number of retirement applications it will allow, after it saw a surge in requests in the last couple of months.
The NYPD announced on Wednesday that 179 officers filed for retirement between 29 June and 6 July – a 411 per cent increase on the 35 who retired in the same time period in 2019.
Additionally, 503 NYPD officers filed for retirement between 25 May - the day George Floyd was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis - and 3 July, representing a 75 per cent increase on the 287 officers who retired in the same period last year.
Progressives are the most open minded, tolerant, and inclusive people on the planet, as long as you agree with everything they say, and do exactly as you're told.
Simple solution, go see the doctor and have them advise immediate medical retirement due to extreme stress and PTSD. My bet is they won't be willing to risk the lawsuit by negating medical advice.

I went through much the same when I wanted to retire. There were a ton of guys all putting in at the same time. They’ll tell you that you can retire, but you won’t be paid till they’ve caught up with the applications/paperwork.
You can’t stop them unless it was written somewhere in the contract that they couldn’t.
Grievances needed to be filed pronto if they can do that.
This is something that warrants a walk out IMO.

Unions don't get to pick and choose which cases they will pursue, at least not arbitrarily. They have a legal obligation called the Duty of Fair Representation. If they deliberately fail to diligently represent an employee, they can be sued.
In times past a union might not push an employee's grievance if they thought said employee was an a-hole. That changed, and I have seen them push a grievance even though the union rep clearly didn't want to. "I know he's an a-hole, Paul, but I have to represent him with his grievance."

If I was one they screwed over and wouldn't let retire, I'd do just enough not to get fired and find me a doctor that feels terrible about my new possible heart, back, neck, PTSD, etc., condition. I'd love to see a federal program that would cover moving expenses and a short term income supplement for first responders of all types, cops, EMT's and firefighters, who want to relocate to places where their skills would be appreciated by the people they serve. Probably a lot more junior officers who are not eligible to retire, are just quitting. Hard to imagine many new recruits wanting to go with NYPD.
Oh yes, they will find people with some sort of social work or psychology degree to go out and do soft empty hand negotiations. And really bad stuff is going to start happening in places where urban and suburban whites live as they become prey due to their non self reliance when it comes to defense against said predators.
