Copied this off a forum. No idea if it works.

I've polished out minor ones with 1500grit wetsand paper. Sand the area smooth then polish to a high luster with Flitz polish followed by car wax. The repair is undetectable even if you know where it was.

It does not go clear to the wood.

I'm not going to touch it. Next owner can give it a shot to see if it can be buffed out. Would look great with a oil finish for sure.

Wow beautiful looking gun in a great caliber. I had two of these...one in 7mm rem mag octagon barrel and another in 30-06 round. Both with nice wood but not like this one.Wish I still had them.

This is killing me. Such a nice piece. I'd like to have it, have the money, but simply literally don't have the room for anything else. Been trying to sell off some stuff I'm not using, but the local-sale market is dead dead dead (pretty much the same market as you, as I'm only a half-hour or so away). I'm not willing to sell online as some sellers I know have had multiple guns actually broken in half during shipment.

You might consider putting this on consignment at Loudoun Guns. They charge 20%, but you're already cutting your original asking price almost that much, and it'd save you the trouble of packaging and shipping, and eliminate the risk of damage in transit. They'd put it behind the counter to keep the riff-raff from banging it up.

Good luck.🔝

May take it to Loudoun Guns. They have some high end stuff there. May also put on Gunbroker for 1 cent and close my eyes and see what happens. Rare gun. I'm a bit surprised it hasn't been scooped up.

They ain't shy about pricing them either! I just picked up a possibly-unfired Browning 92 there last month, at a decent price, but it had been there a while. Couple of years back, they had a gorgeous refurbed Winchester 64, but alas, I didn't have the money.

Another option would be to back off and look for another place to hunt, even on public land. There's a bunch around here, and if your schedule permits, weekdays are often pretty open, especially if you don't mind walking a bit. That way you can keep your pretty rifle.

If room becomes available here, I may look you up. I have one in .22 Hornet and a Traditional Hunter .44 now, and neither is going anywhere until I do, as in Under.
