The big Klipsch Corner Horn is my favorite to this day - in the living room here - and it is very efficient and most transparent. Have used various smaller versions of that in the past - La Scala, Belle and the Cornwall in a dressier setting.

This place is full of 50 and even 60 year old hi fi equipment - a sound system in just about every space - including the shop and garage - McIntosh, Crown, Sansui, Tecnics, Teac, Transcriptor, Garrard, Miracord, Magnecord, LDC, Infinity - on and on - just fun.

A classic pairing with that Marantz would be a set of Large Advent loudspeakers.

Slum: Nope. You need to find a specialist. I'd start with Audio Classics in Vestal, NY. They're McIntosh specialists but also do work on other brands like Marantz.

Yep. Advents would be a good choice as would the JBL 4312 or similar, but those are quite pricey.

I'd also look at Salk. Excellent speakers and they come up used from time-to-time.

........... Exactly what I had circa mid 70's to early 80's...... Except I forgot the model number of the Marantz, but it was in a wood case and the front end looks like a twin of that one pictured. Back then my holy grail speakers would have been something from Klipsch, but the Advents were no slouch.

These old Marantz receivers from the 70s are hard to beat once they've been recapped and fully serviced.

Yes Sir High Noon I should have read every response . I stopped in at Audio Classics last year and they had Klipsch Corner Horns and were assembling a Levinson System for some lucky Customer . They also favor Jadis Equipment . They are also very skilled in Repairing and Testing High end Equipment . I was amazed at their inventory ! IIRC , most Spkrs are at 0.1-1.0 % Efficiency . The Corner Horns are like 15% Efficiency , so you can drive them with a low power Amp or deafen someone .

It's well worth the expense to purchase from Audio Classics. They are true experts and just as important, they know how to properly package their equipment.

Audio Classics has a dedicated shipping department and they make their own double walled, double boxed shipping crates. I was extremely pleased with the quality of their packaging. In my case, the McIntosh packaging materials consisted of the following: The holes they drilled in the wood board (used to affix the piece of audio equipment and keep it from moving around during transit) were perfectly aligned, they sent all the machine screws and washers necessary to affix the amp to the board, and they even included sheet metal screws in case the holes on the chassis were stripped. Also included were two heavy-duty, double walled cartons (inner & outer), dense closed cell foam to line the walls of the outer box, plenty of bubble wrap to fill the voids and layers of cardboard glued together to level the inner box. They certainly know how to pack 'em properly.

Proper packaging materials are just as important as finding highly-skilled technicians that are experts in restoring these old pieces of audio equipment that we love. If not packaged properly, a 50 or 100 lb. amp will be damaged during shipping and no one wants to deal w/ that hassle. The packaging materials I received from Audio Classics were so stout, in fact, that if a person was so inclined, he could stand on the shipping crates and not crush the cartons!

Also important to note: If you purchase a piece of equipment elsewhere, Audio Classics will make and send you the proper packaging materials for a reasonable cost, so you can greatly minimize the possibility of damage during transit.

My first pair of decent speakers were Advents when I was in high school, around 1978 , 1979 ish. Technics receiver and a component equalizer that I can’t recall the name of. Tech turntable with the best stylus I could get very 6 months or so. Original albums fromThe Beach boys in 1969 , Zeppellin ( all up to that point) , Eagles , J Geils, Black Sabbath , Skynyrd: etc. had 200;or so albums that got stolen from storage years ago. I miss them very much
