Looking to do some future late season Deer Hunts and considering these 2 . Both would get a arrowhead breech plug. I would imagine I have to run sabots in the UML and a sized bullet in the CVA. I understand that CVA has some discrepancy in the bore diameters. Is this Internet BS or even remotely true?

The Rem 700 UML will require a 4473 transfer.

A breech plug w/ modules is a waste of time & money if you are shooting substitute or black powders.

You would require a tempered Bbl to shoot smokeless powder.

CVA would NOT be a consideration.

You don't have to run sabots in a Remington UML unless you want to.

There are three of us who own the Remington UML with arrowhead breech plugs. All of us switched to 50 caliber Thor bullets that are made by Barnes for Thor. . No sabot to deal with which caused us fits in warmer weather.

I tried the 300 gr Hammer version first. Got the sizer pack of 4. Removed breech plug. Set rifle on bathroom scale. Noted pounds to push the differently sized bullets seeking 18-20 lbs of pressure which I got with the .502" bullet. .503" required approx 28 lbs which was way too much, almost had to hammer the bullet through. Working with max load of BH209 for 2200 fps. FYI BC is .336

My two Friends are trying out the more recently released 300 gr lightning bullet. Same bullet as hammer but skirt is .503" according to Thor rep. Friends reported it is easy to seat and shoots accurately. They are still working up to finalized loads. My impression is the skirt which is sized .503" is softer perhaps annealed differently than hammer version.

One friend will be using his UML for a trophy bull hunt this coming September. I can report on how the bullet worked for him.

I did shoot a cow elk at 75 yd last season using the 250 gr barnes with sabot and triple seven pellets that remington markets for the rifle. This was pre arrowhead breech plug. Bullet did its job and the elk promptly died. Thinking a 300 gr version with a higher BC can only be better.

Good luck. Should you get the UML I can fill you in on some things we learned about that rifle. PM anytime

Thanks. I plan on getting the arrowhead plug and running BH209 in it . How is the recoil on it with full power loads?

Not bad. It does recoil but it is not as snappy as a magnum rifle.

On what planet? I find that to be highly unlikely. More like .236 BC at best.

Here are some more full bore options for 50cal from Fury. Good price and Dino is a standup guy.

Thor told me that BC. Have not shot it at distance past 100 yds yet. The bullet is quite long with its hollow base. As I understand it the added length boosts BC. Will report back when I have tested it.

bullet is shown on their home page:

Inflated claimed BC is common place from vendors. Fury at least is not making such wild claims. I just dont see how it can be anywhere near .336 BC. The Barnes 50 325gr XPB is not anywhere near .336. Its a claimed .228 and over 1" long. Even the 375gr is much lower.

Ive seen the drop charts and it just aint adding up.

Overkill I hear you. I would agree that some manufacturers inflate BCs. I have used Litz's data for many bullets which tend to be lower but he never tested any Mz bullets.

Just looked at the XPB bullets. I did notice that the 325 and 375 gr 50 cal XPB bullets show a trend. 325 BC of .186 is 1.055" long and 375 gr BC .261 is 1.162" long The front of these two bullets appear to be the same with an open tip. Based on this information and that the 300 gr Thor bullet is 1.275" long with a more streamlined plastic tip the .336 BC might be possible. Think I will talk to Barnes to see what they can tell me.

Friends and I will be shooting at longer distances this fall. Will know for sure then. Will report back at that time.

I think Arrowhead LLC has some Fury 10 packs if you want to try some. Fury bullets are bonded jackets. Reviews have been extremely good and Dennis posts occasionally on other forums. He has a FaceBook page also.
