My life savings is six figures too.... Unfortunately, most of those figures are behind the decimal point.

I thought all the rollers here only dealt in cash? Cars, houses, boats. etc.

I worked in Huntington Park as a young paramedic. It is a [bleep] but a lot of fires, lots of fun. Their PD was investigated by the state and FBI. I saw the results first hand. 3 calls in one shift for people resisting arrest bet was at the jail regularly. One guy was really beat bad. The other shifts were going regularly to the jail for "injured persons". It didn't stop until the FBI began their investigation. Back then their city council supported them. After I left, a cop was convicted of ripping off drug dealers.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^

He would surely have had to arrange that kind of cash withdrawal in advance.

No sane person would do that alone or at least without a weapon at the ready.

How much do they give out in a given day.? What does an ATM have in it..
$200k is not that much compared to FDIC reserve requirements, which are something like 10-20% of deposits...it's been a long time since I went thru that is school but I am pretty sure they have a lot more cash than $200k
Since they discontinued $500 bills. It's what 40 bundles of $100 bills.
2.5"x6"x0.75" each.

That is a barely half full hard briefcase...1980s style.
Sorry h&S I have just been reading about 2007-09 crisis...liquidity, etc...

Someone infected with fear who has read the posts about trying to sell gold coins?

Did he walk out with cash or a check? Regardless, likely someone he had informed on his doings.

Sounds fishy to me. Why not get a Cashier's check? Who does that unless they aren't in their right mind or up to something? If you withdraw that much without security you are begging to get robbed.

The story raised lot of questions for me.

I'm certain he had 200k in cash or the bank would have responded to the news media differently. For large banks, 200k is nothing.

Someone had to know he was getting 200k in cash. Why and how did they know?

Was there a scam going on?

Obviously he wanted the money in green backs, why was that? Did he have a use or other illegal intentions that required he have cash?

I would suspect, based on his age and saving habits, he had always been careful, what changed.

My first thought was why cash, what crime is he involved in? No other reason I can think of to deal in that much cash.

Authorities are searching for the suspect who attacked and robbed a man of his life savings after he had just withdrawn the money from the bank.
HUNTINGTON PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities are searching for the suspect who attacked and robbed a man of $200,000 at a Huntington Park bank parking lot last week.

Francisco Cornejo was beaten and is still bruised after getting his life savings ripped away. After withdrawing money from a Chase Bank, he was attacked.

Through his attorney, he said the suspect got away with hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"He was parked as closely as possible to the bank, knowing he was going to withdraw a large amount of cash. As soon as he got to his car, before he was able to get to his car, he was grabbed and beaten," attorney Nathan Soleimani said.

A senior couple in SF, who immigrated to America nearly 40 years ago, is heartbroken after their life savings was taken from them. A senior law enforcement official confirmed Asian American families are often targets because they keep cash in their homes.

Cornejo said after the sale of his home, he withdrew everything out of his bank in Huntington Park - all $200,000.

"He was literally fighting for his life savings," Soleimani said. "And when he was being beaten he was doing his best to try and retain the bag that he brought with him."

Soleimani said investigators are looking into surveillance video from the bank. Video shows the suspect running away from the scene and Cornejo on the ground.

A representative from the Chase Bank on Belgrave Avenue and Pacific Boulevard also says they're working with law enforcement.

The FBI is now involved in the search for the suspect.

"Thank God he's alive. His family is grateful he got out of it with just the injuries that he has," Soleimani said. "At the end of the day, they're thankful for him being here."

Anyone with information is asked to call Huntington Park police.
It's either BS or some sort of scam. I'm not sure the bank employees would let somebody out with that much without special permissions. They would smell a scam being run or some sort of coercion and be alerted. Not that it's any of the bank's business but...Many banks wouldn't even have that much on hand. Being Chase, they're a big deal but still. If you did possibly walk out with that much, you'd at least have an escort from bank security. The bank would insist on it. Besides that, you'd have to be in a damned poor neighborhood to just have somebody hanging out looking to score some cash when an oldster tottered to his vehicle. What a score for a crackhead. Otherwise, it's some setup. So the old guy talked?

The story is plain bulshit.
