there is no capitalism in the US being in 2008 banks got trillions and now they got tens of trillions. like it or not the real capitalists are the Chinese who thru competition even with themselves makes things cheaper where in the US big companies pay off the govt to crush their competition and have monopolies. stock market is up cause Govt gives out free money and companies buy their own stocks.

That’s about the only economics metric I can see at this point that makes any sense. The market HATES uncertainty, and this time has more of it than any in quite a while, yet here we are, just about to set records.

It is true that when acting externally, China is enviably capitalist. They'll produce almost anything they are contracted to and accept razor thin margins in order to establish themselves in a market. They get their customers addicted to their prices, then enact all sorts of cost cutting measures to increase profit.
They also take a longer term view than later stage capitalists. Imagine walking into a meeting with a US company that makes children's toys and proposing to us lead based paint in order to slowly poison the brains of your enemy's children so that your own children will be able to easily outcompete them. In China, that would be viewed as smart strategy while later stage capitalists would decline because it takes too long to pay off.

Meanwhile, back inside China, the fruits of capitalism aren't available like they are here. Very few people there have to regularly throw away food from their refrigerator to make room for new food because there is so much food, for instance.

Was the afternoon sell-off yesterday due to the news of Biden's VP selection or simply some profit-taking? I'm thinking the former precipitated the latter.

The Dow may be at 28,000 but value stocks are terribly suppressed/depressed. It's all bullsh!t right now. APPL, BA, MSFT often carry the dow and create false optimism.

It's always been bull, but do you really want to sit on the sidelines and miss out?

Part of my portfolio is 75% SP100. It turned a nice return today, while SP500 lost a tad.
I don't have much option on TIAA CREF 403B. Other 25% or so is in a liquid annuity at a guaranteed 3.29%.
Really my only option is the percentages until I retire.
The SP100 has done great over last 25 years, so I have faith in my balance.

I should go back to work so I can get laid off.
