I miss Labs. My parents raised, bred, trained, and field trialed Labs through my teens. We had some incredibly smart dogs, and some dopey, lovable dogs. I miss the dopey, lovable ones the most.

Dandee has 87 nice toys the wife and I have gotten him and the others to play with. He seems to prefer digging up dormant grass clumps and chewing on them, and brings them in the house also: He likes to bring us rocks, mostly pieces of hardpan close to the surface that have broken up during the freeze thaw cycle. We've been collecting the ones he brings in the house or leaves in the middle of the lawn. Today I told the wife we're making him a monument. I weighed the biggest one he brought in, 2 lbs, before taking the whole collections out to the other side of the fence where we can watch it grow. The little scheidtkopf is too good at noticing stuff. He went out with a toy moments after I started his monument, noticed something new outside the fence, and made a beeline to check it out. In an attempt to hold his interest, I make him a "new" toy every now and then by combining some of the existing ones. It's especially effective if it involves some struggle to get the two pieces apart. This one kept him busy for about 15 minutes at least. All of this occurred in the space of about an hour this morning. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Many years back we had one of those dopey lovable labs that we named Ralpf cause that's what his bark sounded like. We also had a German Shepard, Eddy. I took them both with me on a pheasant hunt. Jumped a cock and winged him, he hit the ground running. Ralpf, the "retriever" runs to the truck at the shot and hides under it. Eddy vanishes and I figure the shot scared him too. I move on thinking I'll meet back up with both dogs at the truck. About ten minutes later Eddy, the GS shows up with the bird in his mouth. Damndest thing. I hadn't given any training to either dog.

Geno, our gals love playing tug of war with old leather gloves !
First they'll tear the insulation out & spread it everywhere.
Then next you start finding chewed up leather bits.
Especially when you walk around at night, & ya gotta dodge the "spitballs" in the dark !
Paul.

Hey Paul,
Dandee thinks it's a game to get dirty laundry out of my wife's hamper, or should I leave my closet door open, out of there too. Drags it out and has a blast he does.
He snuck a glove out of my pocket once, I must have left a bit hanging out for him to grab as I walked by.
Stinkers they are.
