I have 2- 50count boxes of the "OLD STYLE" 165gr. Grand Slams for sale if anybody is interested.
$30shipped/box or both boxes for $60 shipped in the lower 48.
Just thought I'd throw this out there as there seems to be a need for the older bullets. My 30-06 prefers the 165gr. TTSX.
PM me if interested.

Haven’t used the 30-165’s, but the 120’s in a 25-06 are hell on deer and pigs. They are a great bullet! I haven’t heard anyone complaining about a Grand Slam. 20 something one-shot kills on caribou make it true.... I used a 275 GS .338WM on moose one time. Head on, 16 yards steep uphill, , yearling bull, just under the chin. Flipped the bugger right over, it did! Nearly decapitated him.

Humm, might need to get your "hearing " checked, Speer has them on their website. Haven't heard myself they were discontinued. I think I saw discontinued on a retail website a while back. Local shops only had odds and ends. Sportsman’s warehouse had them marked way down a while back. I have been wrong before and I can prove it! Happy Trails PS, if MidwayUSA lists for $13.99, that smells like discontinued. Midway has been listing s lot of items as Discontinued that aren't lately. For instance. They list the factory 160 accubonds load from Federal in 7 rem mag as Discontinued. Directly from Federal they say this is BS Maybe only Midway has discontinued them?

I haven't seen any .284" or .308" Speer Hot-Cor or Boat-tail bullets for sale in over a year.
Shew me thy ways, O LORD: teach me thy paths. "there are few better cartridges on Earth than the 7 x 57mm Mauser" "the .30 Springfield is light, accurate, penetrating, and has surprising stopping power"

I heard several years ago the Grand Slams were out of production, then someone at the club told me I was misinformed. I saw a listings on back order, but no sign of bullets actually in stock at distributors. I’ve not seen any new Grand Slam bullets on anyone’s shelf for years, maybe even a decade. The Hot-Cor bullets show up on Gun Broker occasionally in (full) case amounts.
The last Gold Dots I was able to find were pulls.

Shot em over brigs 322 in a rebarreled Savage 308 . Three shot groups .4”-.7” definitely going to give them a whirl this comming season . Over 748 they still ran .9” In a Ruger compact 1.25”-1.5” with either powder . Still huntable , but the compact shot 165 SGK’s into .6” with brig 322 . Felt pretty lucky getting this kind of accuracy from both guns and components without a lot of playing . Kenneth

No experience with the .30 -165. The 175 in .338 darned near decapitated a "yearling" bull moose for me. Head-on shot, steep up-hill, just under jaw, at 16 yards as he reached high for his last browse on earth. Almost flipped him over backwards also, and there was only bony mush left of about 8" of his spine, from the base of skull back. That he was a small-bodied moose (550#? )with 16" spikes didn't hurt the visuals either. I sorta felt I overgunned him... On the other hand, it was a five mile pack out with him- I wasn't wasting fly-in $ on anything that small, with an an extra free day for packing ahead . I appreciated his size........ That's the only GS bullet kill I've made, but I would not hesitate to use those 165's on the game mentioned, including moose, and maybe bison.

I've used Grand Slams quite a lot. More than a dozen elk, a few moose and one big caribou. And a bunch of deer. It was a sad day for me when Speer discontinued them in .358" 250 gr. since it was my favourite elk bullet. I still load the 160's in several 7mm rifles and 165 and 180's in .308 and 30-06. A friend has shot about 20 elk and a half dozen moose with 140 and 150 gr. GS in his .270. My impression is that they are at least as good in really big game as Nosler Partitions. I like them a little better than Remington Core Lokt, and they certainly hold together better and penetrate deeper than Winchester Power Points or any Sierra bullet. A Barnes TSX will penetrate deeper, and a Swift A Frame will be slightly more reliable penetrating bone, but for most of the hunting I've done the Grand Slams are "just right" and a good value.

I've got several of each of these grand slams available if anyone needs any. .257/120, 7mm/175, and 30/180. Will sell at pre covid prices plus shipping.
