Couple days ago my sunroof in my F350 made a funky noise and wouldn’t close. Called the dealer to get it fixed. $2000 quote. Ordered a rebuild kit for $70 and installed it this morning in 3.5 hrs in my driveway. All of the important parts of the shuttle mechanism are plastic. Unbelievable that they’d put this kind of garbage in a $90k truck. Rant over

My neighbor just traded his 2017 F250. He had problems with the sunroof.
I believe he had to have it fixed twice. Maybe it was the A/C that needed to be fixed twice, as that was a problem too. And front end work. When he first got it, there were problems with the rear passenger door locks. Wouldn't lock or unlock, I forget which. No issues with the diesel engine or transmission.
He traded it in for 2020 F150 Platinum, and I think he said the sunroof on that one is acting up now too. Otherwise, he loves that truck so far.

40,000 miles on the truck and I haven’t used the sunroof once. Same thing in SUV. Those things just ride in with the option package and are the most useless thing that they put on a vehicle. If I want sun on my head, which I won’t, I’ll go outside.
My other auto is a .45

I have a sunroof that is rarely ever used. The only thing I can think of that it might be good for is hunting in the mountains when you want to see something up the hill on the opposite side. Then you can see up the mountain. Otherwise there are useless.

No need for a sunroof in a truck either...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

we have an '18 Toyota Highlander with a sunroof. My wife insisted on it. We haven't used it more than a doz times. It's too noisy and the glare makes the instruments hard to read, especially if we're using the GPS screen.

This hasn't changed since the invention of sunroofs. One dealer was giving me schit because I didn't want one with a sunroof. He said something to the effect of "how often do you see issues with a sunroof on todays vechicles" I say "never...because I won't have one."
Camp is where you make it.

They make huge piles of money with stuff like sunroofs. They charge 10x more than what one costs them to produce. Plus, if you want one, they bundle it with a bunch of other overpriced things that you don't want.

I've seen people prairie dogging it from the sunroof while road hunting. And usually with various seats in the bed, or just bales of hay to sit on.
Also seen it during antelope season, while riding my moto through the Owyhee.

Anything made to be really used, like a truck or sports car, does not need a sunroof. Stuff is going to flex, or be exposed to detrimental conditions. It is a gimmick to increase profit margins.
Now with even more aplomb

Wife just loves sunroofs. She’s not the one that tries to trace down leaks. Had a 2007 Camry. Floor was always wet. Enough googling lead me to the sunroof drain hoses. Had to remove headliner. They’d came off the barbed fittings. Pain the ass.
Have a 2001 civic. Sane issue. Still haven’t figured out where the leak is yet. It’s a fully depreciated 300k mike commuter car, so screw it.
My F250 has one. Never used.
Her SUV has one. Always open. I hate it. Loud. Glare. Leaves. Stupid.
New Tundra, specifically bought without one.

A sunroof, heated seats, electronic controls for seats, running boards, etc. add weight to trucks, and reduce payload. There are a LOT of F150's out there with high end trim packages that have less payload than a Tacoma. A lot of high end F250's with diesel engines with less payload than a base model F150. I'm sure the same is true with other manufacturers, but I'm more familiar with Ford's offerings.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

It's true that a diesel has a lower payload than an identical gas rig. The diesel's forte is towing' where there are more wheels on the road.

The payload problem is really bad with the ram ecodiesel 1/2 tons. To the point that you get 4 or 5 250 pound passengers in the truck and you are maxed out with no payload left.

I know a few newer F-150s or Super Dutys with the panoramic sunroom. Not one of them has anything good to say about them. Hell, my cousin sold his F-150 and bought another specifically to get away from it!
