I don’t have high tech stuff like that, and my bullets are allergic to ice water. Soft lead splats really good. Fella wants to go fast with soft lead he only needs to put a paper jacket in it.

Geesh, got any lead left? LOL I do, plenty of processed ingots as well as 4 five gallon pails of WW. WW are becoming more and more zinc, so not sure how much actual usable lead I will get of of these pails, but I’m hoping it’s enough to last me.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

I will add that regardless of alloy, the single most important facet of the endeavor is the melt temp for any given alloy. For example:
Pure lead- 800* 30:1 -775* Alloy for the bullets above : 650* Lyman #2: 625* I'm going to play around with temperature some and see what that does. I make Lyman #2 using a recipe in the Lyman manual using lead, linotype and 50/50 bar solder and have probably been casting way too hot all these years. The bullets cast and shoot fine but for a temp setting I just put my old RCBS Pro-Melt dial to what it said was about 750 and left it there. Who knows what temperature it actually was. Got a Lee Magma 20 pound pot recently and after 44 years of casting finally got a lead thermometer. I calibrated what stable temp the numbers on the Lee dial correspond to so will start the next session at 625 and go from there.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I decided to prepare for helping out if/when chitt hits the fan. I only have about 100 rounds loaded for the .30-30s and OTOH, about 200 empty pieces of brass. Plus, I'm about 65% bored out of my skull. And it's not raining. And my powder/primers need a purpose in this life. I have a lot of reservations about what's in store in the aftermath of 3 November, regardless of who wins. So, in keeping with the Scout's motto.... Say hello to my new batch of Lyman 311041 style lead. They run about 10-11 on the BHN scale and I've launched them at velocities over 2,100 fps in the past with no leading and more than acceptable accuracy with a levermatic. 50 yards during early exploration of loads. They have done much better but I don't have a pic handy. -sniff- And the Sneezer simply loves the dang things, sans gas checks. Go figure.... Sizing, lubing and gas checks are next on the agenda. Splat............. Just outstanding Chief. Keep on truckin'.

On topic of paper patching.... Start here with the .44. I use a modified case (sharpened with the primer pocket drilled) to make card wads. Stuff the case full of Li'l Gun and head to the range Adjust zero and head for the woods. Dead deer flops on the ground....
