From what position would you be shooting? Bench? prone? Any caliber/energy restrictions?
Absent those details, I would build an 8-twist 6mm of some flavor on a Remington clone custom action with a Triggertech and have it weigh about 15 pounds.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

You could probably just buy something off the shelf. Such as Tikka TAC in 6.5.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I would just get a Steyr SSG .308 with a Kahles 6x scope and call it good

I'd "build" a Seekins Havak in either 6 CM or 6.5 CM. Lots of combinations on action/barrel maker/etc you could do it with but I think it would be hard to beat what Seekins has put together, I'm doing this with the consideration that it would be used to hunt as well as "just" shoot the 10 shots at 500.
I'd make sure it had left side flush cups though....Seekins missed that and it irritates me with this rifle.

I'd just use my 600/1000 Benchrest rifle.....
Bat action, Krieger barrel, McMillan stock, Jewell trigger, Nightforce scope, chambered in 6 Dasher.....Couple of 600 yard targets:

Thanks guys, I did forget to mention we can only use a front bi pods and a rear bag, bench is ok or prone. I'm liking the 6.5-.284 and the 6 dasher

Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

It ain't like flush cups are hard to add...... No, they aren't. The Havak comes with them on the bottom....hard to add or not, it's still an irritation to need to do it.

I have a feeling this thread will turn out to be foreshadowing.

buzzaw This would be a good blueprint for you. Due to a couple of bad influences...cough dave7mm cough aalf...I wanted to build my first long(er) range rig. Mostly banging steel out to 1k...some paper...maybe try PRS at some point. I still have to bed it and get glass on her...but finally got my barreled action back today. -Kelbly Atlas Tactical action -Bix n' Andy Dakota trigger (likely to be a tacsport later if I wanna go lighter) -6.5mm 8twist Bartlein 5r #13 Sendero/rem varmint profile -Manners PRS-2 in midnight camo -Seekins precision DBM M5 bottom metal -Kelblys new self timing muzzle brake "The Claw" Chambered by Kelblys in 6.5x47 Lapua Weighs in just shy of 10lbs as she sits. My first custom rifle....and I'm smiling ear to ear like a kid on Christmas. Hopefully get her bedded tomorrow and start breaking her in next week. Between flathead fishing, hunting season, and life...I won't get to get real serious till about February unless I kill a buck early. Too many hobbies...not enough time. I have a few couple periods where there's nothing to hunt or catch...which is when I will shoot heavy. Thought I'd share since I posted a teaser a while ago. thank me later dave
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

I could pick up one of 2 308's or a 6.5 CM. I also have a 30/06 which should do and two 30/40 Krags which should do as well. Oh, and a 8 twist 22-250 and a 6.5/284. The last two are Savages and easily forgettable. GD
