I am a staunch free market economist.
I do not understand the term "predatory lending." That implies the borrowers were coerced, duped, and kidnapped into the deal - None of which are the truth. Those idiots are given the terms, they just chose to sign on the line.
It is a stupid economic decision that stupid people make, that other people profit from. The American way. Just like paying $6 for a pint of Bud Light at the bar that costs .12 cents.
Interesting that so many conservatives here question a legitimate business serving a crappy need, on the up-and-up. Like bondsmen.

I have no problem with them. People seem to be using them of their own accord.
I like freedom and free enterprise. I personally have never used them but my daughter worked at one for awhile and it was basically just a bank for those without a bank account or good credit.

Payday lending...It's complicated.
Businesses that run accounts often charge 1.1%/month, credit cards go well over 20%.
Payday lenders are working with even higher risk.
Predatory pricing, not sure.
Predatory practice/business model?
Oh Hell yeah!
But, Buyer Beware. If you need to borrow against this check, its easy to see
the hole you are digging. That, is on the borrower.
Don't like, wouldn't want to be part of it.
One other thought, an argument the lenders like to use.
with real merit.
Once upon a time, a person low on cash needing to buy something
would just write a check. It would bounce, of course.
They would figure that in, and just accept the $20 fee.
No big deal to that type.
Today, they get hit $50+, then they have to pay the $50+ the receiver of the check
gets hit with.
$50 in groceries or $20 in gas cost then $100 plus.
Due to the fee gouging of our banking system.
A payday loan is much, much cheaper than that.
And yet, even though I argued for them.
I still don't like it.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!
