Cast bullets? One could I suppose. At the velocity the 22 Jet is at I would predict leading. YMMV. I always used jacketed bullets. Yes without CLEAN rounds and chambers they will lock up. A PIA.

What do you guys use your Jets for? I haven’t shot a round of 357 Magnum in any of my revolvers so chambered in forever because I hate the blast. The few times I’ve fired Jets and a Hawkeye in 256 they were obnoxiously loud and blasty. Do you shoot plates at long range with them? Just paper ? Hunt with them? They do seem like they’d make a fine turkey pistol for fall gobblers.

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

No leading. Predictions not required. They lock up from being too polished. Being clean gives them grip. Like jwp states, Ive run the exact bullet at the 3k mark.

Might be fine, for myself, lead bullets have never worked in a Jet. I would assume a gas check. The way they burn a forcing cone/lead, can't see the base of a lead bullet doing well.

Unique and Blue Dot are slightly more pleasant, but 22 wheelguns, 30s and 32s and magnums are all a bit nasty because we make them that way. Powders consumed in the case (fast) before the cylinder gap are always less noxious, but less powerful.

Dont have a 22 mould without a gas check, although at Jet speeds and pressures wouldnt require one. Its really not that much of an anomaly.

For years I thought I'd like to have a 53, then I shot one. Ranks right up there with my .500 S&W as far as being pleasant to shoot. Factor in all the little quirks and tricks to get them to shoot well and function reliably and I have to wonder if it's worth it. That said, if a nice one came by, with inserts and a .22 LR cylinder, at a really good price.....

Recently bought what I think was an unfired 14 with all paperwork and box, grips numbered to gun, for $650. Most vintage S&W’s bring high prices in this area, we have a few local collectors with money that drive up the prices.
A 53 Jet? Don’t know, I haven’t seen one for sale locally in many years. I’d pass on it unless it was a real steal (say under $600). I had plenty of opportunity to buy them in the 70’s. Just too much trouble for the effort.

On the14 without the box and no pictures to see I would say $550.
