Been glassing the big canyon country here. Seen two blacktail bucks so far. Going back out this weekend.

Son popped this one with the 260 the other day. His longest shot to date, about 125 yards and propped on side of tree. I've let him practice out to 300 so I felt confident about it.

We have a 5 deer limit.

I could have tagged out already. Saw 9 by 7:30 today here. No shot taken.

I have season thru Dec 31.... looking for better bucks.

Its just a light pullover, it was warm enough that we went ahead and got her to the cooler for sure. Looks like next week gonna be in the mid 80s too.

I got this forky muley last week. He has the biggest 2 pt rack I've ever shot, 17" high and 23" wide at the outside widest spread. His teeth say he's a 2 year old. That top point on the left is 13".

Cool forkie RC. My very first muley was a giant old fork horn. Only deer I’ve ever had mounted, he’s 27” wide.

Highlights Today:

Saw 8 deer, Doe s, yearlings, fawns NO shot BUT...

I got to RUN OFF a filthy ROAD 'shooter' poacher !!!

Some guy? stopped on a paved Co. road and got out to shoot a Doe with a FAWN.

I stepped out (not in line of fire AT ALL) wearing Orange and YELLED, " HEY..Dumb ..." what ya doin?"

He jumped back in truck and HAULED BUTTT ! GREAT FEELING to me.

Also a Highlight, An American Patriotic EAGLE flew around and landed in a tree. I got to get his pic
before the Crows aggravated him so much he left.

This is the 2nd time I've been able to photo an Eagle where I hunt.

A GREAT DAY hunting to me.

Jerry

edit note: I changed the pic of the eagle. First one was blurry because of zoom. This on is normal. Not great
but over 100 yds with cell ph.

This morning was the opener: 14 degrees and windy.
Did not see a deer until 8 a.m. I shot that mule doe and gutted her in 14 degrees and wind.

for gutting, I use those yellow Playtex Handsaver kitchen gloves that come up over the wrist. They're not insulated but they sure keep the hands a lot warmer than bare skin. Afterwards, you don't have to pour cold water on your hands to wash up. MUCHO better.

Guys take a look at my Eagle pic above.

I changed it out for the same pic that was not zoomed. Still not great but over 100 yds w/cell phone.

The doe I shot this morning is hanging out with a guy she met in the meat locker.

I was waiting for my buddy at the truck after the morning hunt when a doe and two button bucks showed up. They ate poison oak berries a few feet in front of the pickup. They continue to mock me.
