Can't believe how many hunters are overgunned with 9.3s these days! Ha ! Not Over Under Gunned, I just haven’t found the right CZ550 Or maybe a Husqvarna to play with ! MD : What light for caliber Deer or even Antelope bullets would you recommend for the 9.3 ? ( Like the .338 200 BT)

The lightest I've used is the 232-grain Norma Oryx, but worked up a load with the 210 Cutting Edge Raptor that gets about 2850 fps. It would sure do the trick.

Great summary on the WM vs '06 JB.
Re: the 250 Sierra's being stout, I referred to that IIRC in my earlier post. One poster mentioned inconsistent expansion and fouling in early Barnes - yes, I had bad fouling the first time I used them. I do believe the 'issues' have largely been addressed as they were tweaked and perfected over time.
My 338s have been traded off, but if shooting under 300 yds, I would like to enjoy a 9.3x62.......

Hi Everyone, I ended up shooting both my buck and doe on my MT deer hunt with the .338 Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertip in my 338-06 (at about 2850-2875 FPS MV). Both deer were taken inside 100 yards in heavy snow at just over 0 degrees F. Thanks to everyone who weighed in with their experiences that led me to be unconcerned about the bullet being either too hard or too soft. The buck was probably little over average size and the doe was average to maybe a little below average. She wasn't a dry doe so her fat content was pretty low. Both bullets fully penetrated and neither hit any significant bone - just a rib on entrance and exit. Here are the pics of the inside of the ribs on the buck. Entrance: Exit: Both deer did a short death run and then dropped. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to my original question. Cheers, Rex

Congrats. I'm a big fan of the .338-06 on deer.

For the past several years I have gone to a 200gr. Hornady RN bullet in my .35 Whelen for whitetails, it has proven to be a great bullet on deer and is very accurate in my rifle.

For the past several years I have gone to a 200gr. Hornady RN bullet in my .35 Whelen for whitetails, it has proven to be a great bullet on deer and is very accurate in my rifle. I shot some of those in my Whelen AI as a stand-in for the 200 TTSX when I was doing some initial workup with PP Varmint, for which I had only interpolated data for 200 grain bullets (split the difference between published charges for 220 and 180 grain Speers, backed off 4 grains, and worked up). They shot quite well and at least in my rifle produced very similar pressure and velocity to the TTSX when I switched over to them for the fine tuning. Bet they'd be pretty fragile at the 2950-2975 Varmint pushed them at though. How fast did you push them in your Whelen to get the performance you liked? Thanks, Rex
