Electric pressure cooker, plus some other functions. We have two, one for home, one for the boat... and we use each often. This after ~55 years of stove-top pressure cookers...

i hate new things. i like old ways of cooking. i don't want breadmaker or sous vide machines, if it wasn't in use in 1960 (like margarine), not sure i want it. I don't like canola oil either

for an old sourdough yer pretty d_mn modernized...LOL

it is true that it is a luxury of choice to avoid the latest conveniences whenever you feel like it, something you couldn't do in the olden days

i use a recurve bow, use fly fishing tackle, and shoot deer with a traditional percussion cap muzzleloader, and am grateful for it

i'll look into the instant pot to make sure i don't want it...LOL

I've got one. Use it occasionally, but not too often.

We've used it for pressure cooking, sous vide, yogurt. My son used his for pressure canning.

I like that it replaces a bunch of gadgets with one gadget. Like my Kitchenaid with the attachments.

Its very similar to an air fryer. About the size of a basketball, 110V, given to us by friends or family, used once, and sits in the closet in the basement.

If you never needed a pressure cooker before, you probably don't need an Instant Pot now.

And for those who use a pressure cooker often, the electric version offers a few improvements.

We use ours all the time. It is great. I like to quick brown venison steaks, then put on a tray in there and cook em for about 15 minutes... melt in your mouth... great for lots of things... you don't have to have one, but we enjoy ours... after it cooks, it automatically goes into a keep warm mode, if we're later getting in from outside... cattle don't always run on a schedule

Wife replaced our old crock pot with one. She uses it a lot, and is getting better with it. The first few meals out of it were grey mushy blobs. Lots better since. I'm not yet convinced it's better than a crock pot, but I have no vote in the matter.

Use it all the time. Try throwing some stew meat in there on saute then add a little liquid like broth and use high pressure to create some of the most tender, mouthwatering morsels of beefy goodness you've ever thrown into stroganoff.

I love ours. Wife uses it for hardboiled eggs. Makes the easiest peeling eggs ever.

Last night I ran a Chuck roast, armroast, 3 packs of soup bones and 3 packs of neck bones thought it with green chiles, chipotles in adobo, and a few spices.
Had to split it into two batches. 30 minutes yielded some killer shredded beef taco meat.

Does great as a slow cooker if your really into watching something cook for 8 hours.

But it got pushed into the back of the storage closet and was rarely seen.
That lead to the storage shelves in the basement.

I moved out the crock pots to make room.

Grilled wings? Blasphemy.

The only acceptable replacement I’ve found for deep fried has been the air fryer. No fancy oven here. Just a regular ol’ propane burner and baked wings out of it are a crime against chickens.

I also make chicken wings in ours. I think they come out better than grilled (unless using some smoke), or baked in the oven. I cook them outside, as it stinks like hell indoors. My 8 year son does the wing sauce. Butter, various hot sauces, garlic, and sometimes hot pepper like pickled serrano.

Other than that, it makes good frozen fries or tots, especially if the oven is being used for something else. Or, reheating that sort of stuff. We tried different recipes when we first got it, and they turned out just fine, but our airfryer is primarily for wings and fries. Brussel sprouts turn out pretty good too, if you like that sort of thing. Again, cooked outside as they stink like hell.

In terms of the Instant Pot, my wife uses it quite a bit, but I don't know how to run it.

She used it three times in the last three days. She's made a ton of yogurt with it. Most everything has been good. A few things have been exceptional. The ones that were only average, were done really quick though.

My buddy has perfected a fake Kalua Pig recipe with his Instant Pot. Really good stuff.

My wife uses it and is getting better with it as time goes by. She also has been using a air fryer too. They both have a place for us. I prefer grilling pizza and wings but when it’s windy and pouring outside the air fryer and oven get the job done just fine. I prefer deep frying French fries but fries in the air fryer are pretty good too with less clean up and faster. She done some chicken last night with peppers onions and some kind of sauce. 25 minutes later it was all shredded and tender. Pretty handy for quick meals if nothing else.

Just to be clear for those contemplating this, the air-fryer is a separate accessory that can be purchased for the Instant Pot, though they are now making an Instant Pot package that includes the accessory.

The Instant Pot itself lets you cook a combination of things that you would ordinarily need a pressure cooker + slow cooker + yogurt maker + sous vide + etc., etc. all in one appliance.

It's not magic. If you like cooking and like trying new methods it will be good for you. If you hate cooking or prefer frozen crap out of a box, this unit will not help you.

Well you are a boomer so you plan when you are having hard boiled eggs. Me not so much it’s usually spur of the moment let’s have hard boiled eggs..

I like them cold, so they go n the fridge. Two with toast for a quick, healthy, breakfast.

Egg salad sandwiches too.

Wasn’t aware the feeelz poleece hung out in this section.

Some people don’t like to cook and will eat frozen crap to get their daily caloric needs met. My SD22 is one, a former BIL another. They take no joy from food, it’s simply a daily requirement.

i know a guy who is a successful salesman, he spends large sums of money, well used to, in fancy restaraunts, wining, dining, etc...hates every minute of it
