I tell you these newer recoil pads are way better than some of the older ones.I had a Rem 700 30-06 much like yours.It had one of those Pachmyer recoil pads that looked like what you see on shotguns.It left me bruised after a few rounds.I'm not recoil sensitive,I shoot 300 mags and 338 mags without any problems,but this rifle hurt when you shot it.I put one of the Rem Limbsaver pads on it and it was a much different rifle.If you can find another newer stock to put it in just to try,I bet you will feel the difference.
