Had to ask my wife. Not sure what it was, dress shirt to me, but knew it wasn't.
Button up oxford (darn, I sound classy) My nicest blue jeans, Black Oxford shoes, dress socks.
Church is the only place I dress that nice. I only own one or two pair of dress socks, take them off and stuff them in the shoe. Once in a great while, they get washed.
I don't go to church to see and be seen.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

As a kid the church that my family went to the men all wore suits. Things today seem more casual I wear good jeans my good boots and a nice button down. That seems to be what most men there wear. I’ve worked in the trades most of my adult life and have never owned a suit but do have one pair of nice dress pants that I on very rare occasions wear a tie and dress shoes with.

I guess I’m not civilized I wear my best wranglers and a denim shirt and my work boots because I don’t have any dress boots. Most of the time when I leave church I’m headed straight to work.

Even a n—-er has the sense to not wear blue jeans to church.

Whenever I've been in a church, it's either because someone I know died or I'm being a tourist or a soldier, but for my religion I was raised to wear nice clothing at temple.
I never really liked that, cause the reform temple I grew up with was more of a retarded fashion show than a house of worship. It's part of the reason I stopped going for many years.
After living in Israel, I saw that people just go to temple with whatever clothes they have on at the time and that made sense to me, since it's not about me or my clothes. Then, I started going to orthodox services and, again, people go as they are. The rabbi explained it to me that neither he nor G-d look at anyone's clothing during services (or at any other time), and it's a distraction to even consider how you look when you are praying.
So I usually go in a pair of jeans, tennis shoes and a button down shirt of some sort. Last week at the orthodox services I attended in Montana, there were ranchers who showed up in camo and work clothes, and the only reaction was to welcome them. One guy at the services wore a suit, and he was from California. Since it was raining, I put on the waterproof gear I use for duck hunting (not waders, of course, cause that would have been weird) and I was among my people.

I don't - church we've gone to for four generations is now a liberal bastion of religion.. The pastor 'suggested' that I find another church - since I chided him for preaching to the left and ignoring us on the right... Our family has over eighty years there - now I do not go, period.. Talk to members, get a quorum, campaign behind the scenes, make a motion at a business meeting, fire his ass.

I usually wear shorts, a t-shirt, and hikin’ shoes. Ran across the remains of this old cabin at 10,000 feet elevation. I like church to be informal, non-traditional, and laid-back. Oh yeah...and no ceiling.

Ed Brown Executive Carry. IWB. Newish jeans and untucked shirt. Our church is come as you are and they are happy to see you. Preacher did have his shirt tucked in today. For myself, church could be in a tree stand. Don't matter much to me.

I think these upper-case-O Orthodox folks get the idea: https://pemptousia.com/2016/12/proper-attire-in-the-house-of-god/...The Church is our home, a place where we should feel comfortable, and at ease. It is also God’s house and is a temple set aside for worship of the Holy Trinity. Although times have changed and we have become a very casual society, this attitude can not be allowed to influence how we dress to worship God...
...Our way of dressing for church should reflect our desire to offer our very best to Christ. Just as we want to act in ways that demonstrate the centrality of Christ in our lives, our dress should show forth the modesty that is befitting a Christian.
Just as we take special care to dress for formal social occasions, or job interviews, how much more important it is to show our respect for God’s house. If we were invited to the wedding of our boss’s daughter, we’d make sure to show respect to our employer by dressing our best. Does God deserve anything less?
We should wear clothes that are modest and befitting a Christian...
...Both men and women should avoid wearing clothing that can be distracting to other worshipers. Just as we want to keep our focus on the divine services, so too we must not be the cause of the distraction for our fellow Christians.... For the TL;DR sorts, dress well/up as you would for other social occasions that call for such, to the limit of your capability, and in a way not to be distracting. At our church that runs from what I would call "western dressy" (nice blue jeans, button down shirt, shined boots) to dressy-casual, through to suit & tie. Most all are somewhat up-dressing relative to day-to-day. And even that is subject to internal and external duties. One lady gets off or goes on to nursing duty and wears scrubs. Folks volunteering to prepare a fellowship meal after church dress down to get the work done and not ruin their nice clothes. Some get to other work directly after church. I used to wear a button-down shirt & tie, but have taken to wearing an un-tucked shirt, tie-less. That was after some pointed inquiries as to whether I had a CHL after a discussion regarding church security and some incidents. The Board did not want to institute a formal security plan, but were interested as to how many men packed heat at each service and in the Sunday school classes--to include those for the kids. I got the hint (wink, nudge) and went from ankle or pocket carry of my snubbie to IWB 1911, GM or CDR + 2 reloads depending on my mood. Thus, the slight relaxation of my previous sartorial arrangements. In sum, dress to show some respect, show some understanding, and don't be a distraction. Until He does. He tells us he is a jealous God and we are to glorify Him. Showing up slovenly with BO--when you can do better--is something most folk would not do in day-to-day social situations. Why should church get less attention or respect and effort than your fellow man? Should we sin more to make grace abound? Good suits at Goodwill
They should pay me for that Ha! Yes, I have heard that before. Apparently......no one my size ever upgraded suits, or died owning one. Gave some of my older nice clothes to a hard luck working man a few years back. He was a good 3XL and had zero luck finding low-cost indoor/office work clothes to interview for more indoorsy jobs after being laid off from the building trades. Was told directly by one employer, "Come back dressed for the job and I'll give you an interview." He was wearing his usual quality work clothes for the trades. Don't know if he got the job, but he had the clothes, from boots to button-down shirt when i got finished with him. A good learning experience for the kiddos, too. "Give generously, but use discernment." Since it was raining, I put on the waterproof gear I use for duck hunting (not waders, of course, cause that would have been weird) and I was among my people. That bit surely tickled my funny bone.

Like a civilized man. Suit and tie or slacks and sport jacket. I would not mow my lawn wearing what some folks wear to church. If you doubt we live in an uncivil society, just looks how folks dress! I have to agree that while I’ve fallen prey to the lie that less formal equals more sincere myself at times I’ve come around to this way of thinking. I ought to be, at the very least, as willing to look “nice” for worship of my God, as I am to do so to execute my vocational calling. My pastor once observed that our modern culture, “works at its play, worships its work, and plays at its worship”. Apt observation.

If i was to go,
I’d wear my Nike track suit and air Jordan’s.
Just to keep it real.
Elastic waist band is handy for your 3 helping of Mrs Ruth’s homemade banana pudding @ dinner on the grounds.

Agree. Wholeheartedly. God doesn't focus on our outward appearance. God looks at the heart. And if believers have the spirit of God living within them, then they are temples of the Holy Spirit...and they are holier than any church or sacred place they could ever go to.
Every day on this side of the ground is a win.

I went to church the other day, 7500'+ in the mountains I wore my wool britches and moccasins Is the Vienna sasauge can lids folded over on the toes? Keep the cactus out your toenails? On topic, Haven’t been to a church service in many years, other than a rare wedding or funeral. On topic, when necessary for the wedding, Christening , funeral type deals I will wear long pants (even in summer ), a button up shirt with a collar ( ) and actual pull on boots (not of the Apache variety seen above ) Big Dave, and anyone else wondering, the moccasins are made by me, from a pattern made by an old White Mt Apache lady, who took apart her mother's "boots" which were made sometime in the late 1800's/ early 1900's. Can't see it from here, but the legs of the boots come up to my thigh, the pair was made from a single deerskin except the soles which are cattle hide. The toe thing is traditional to their boots, and is VERY handy at protecting the toes. It is cut that way from the piece making up the sole and when sewn to the legs the thread is pulled tight to make them curl back. Walking through "wait a minute" acacia, NM locust, and other thorny stuff, being able to pull up the legs is a real help. The decorative camouflage painting is mine. I didn't want to do something offensive to the culture, most of the folks making them were decorating them "fancy" for pow wows, so I asked the lady. She said "they're your boots, paint them any way you want". My maker approves of me wearing them when I go to the wild places we like to meet away from town for informal restorative talks for the soul. PS, if you look closely behind the Apache boots, you can see a pair of the White Man's Red Wing boots too. My maker approves of those also. PPS, on the odd occasion, my maker has even approved of me going unshod, as when I walked the dogs to the wild place behind the house the other day.

Those are cooler than cool!
Great story behind them.
Not too far from here are the Choctaws.
I’m sure they may do something like that. Mostly are you hear about them nowadays in the casinos.
They do still play stickball though.
