I have a dog in the fight, as I drove the 18 wheeler for 8 years over the road.
Just imagine, tomorrow, every truck driver in America is gone. It would take five days, and the United States of America would collapse.
No food in the grocery stores. No gas at the gas station.

Remember New Orleans after Katrina. The whole country would look like that, after five days without truck drivers.

This thread is a perfect reminder of why you don't take advice on the internet unless you know who is responding. Some very knowledgeable electricians on this thread who know what they are talking about... and an awful lot of guys on here acting like experts about something the apparently know nothing about....

Moving a meter at any time is a dangerous situation even for those who do it every day. Those are unfused wires that come down to the meter from the pole or underground and the power company needs to be involved in most cases to turn them off and remove them. I've disconnected them live a few times and sweat blood every time, but somehow got them reconnected without losing body parts. I know guys who haven't been so lucky...

Personally, I stuck with Commercial/Industrial construction for about 95% of my work and preferred it that way... residential work was a pain in the ass and so were most of the customers....

I've been saying for a long time if a young man wants to make some money, get into industrial electricity.

They can take that skill with them and make money anywhere.

Big demand for that trade.

I'd recommend any high-schooler to at least look at the trades.
This after running tractors, dozers, and other heavy equipment since I was 7. Drove 18 wheelers a while, electrician and builder for 25 years.
I had contractors licenses in both.
Sometimes it was more satisfying than managing the family business, but life took a turn.
We now have a small ranch - so that is actually at least as satisfying than seeing a finished project.

And typically they also can't stay on track..
OP simply asked about price but people start

I guess it was my mistake to assume any dummy would have the sense to have the power co turn the juice off at the transformer for such a job.

I don't know how things are where you live but you can youtube anything to do with mechanics or electricity and do it yourself. Yes people that can repair fix or install things are valuable and they should be.

Neighbor was having heat pump issues and got a quote for about 25,000 for two new outfits as lightning had entirely fried his system. Second guy came in and got it going in fine order for $250.

Gus/Starman, how does your reply help the OP about the price of his service relocation? Does your blabberous statement about staying on track not apply to you yourself or just everyone else?
