Such attempts often begin with the troll raising "concerns" about the topic of the discussion, hence the name. Using your above logic that "an opinion contrary to the majority" would then leave your opinion that Trump was a better choice than Hillary as you were trying to only sow dissent? As she did win the majority vote.
