Lacy, that's Bandit, my Standard Schnauzer.

He's a good hunter.

Not really. Those big boars keep to themselves more than anything.

These boars have only been here a day or two.

I have been watching the sounder for awhile, and they come in regularly...

The boars pretty much only come in when the sows are in heat.

I got one that big about a year ago at the same spot.

I'd say 325.

Why, like a movie star, as Mr Gillie pointed out

rockin,

does anyone make a sow in heat, estrus type lure like they have for deer?

seems that might get them boars to come around a bit more?

Although, it's likely them pigs are smarter than a buck in rut. wink

MOGC,

That's one of the few I know exactly what it weighed.. wink

I even started a thread here and gave a nice bone handle Case Trapper knife for the closest guess..

Geno, you are right about the boars being smart.

Rather than use a scent, many have started calling hogs with sounds through an electronic caller.

Glenn Guess is about the best there is at that, and pretty much pioneered it, with huge success.

He uses sounds he recorded. I think you can buy the sounds as a phone app from him, last I heard.

Might shoot him a message on YouTube if you want the hog sounds.

Pigs are not like coyotes, that will come in from a mile or more away, if you call them with an E-caller, if they are in the general area fairly close they will come in when called, I have found the piglet in distress sound works best for me, I have called 3 big boars with the distress sounds, but mostly have pissed off sows respond. and a coyote will come to the piglet sounds also. Yeah, my experience leads me to the point you made about calling in an area where you know hogs are. Permanent habitat.

You can call and get them out of the brush for a shot.

Just came in from calling, at a tank with a bunch of pig sign, got there about 6:30 backed in the brush sat down on my folding chair with my shooting sticks, sat for about 10 min. then called with piglet distress, here came 2 sows with about 10 25# piglets, shot the biggest sow 125 # and a piglet before they got back in the brush, worked out well, needed them for one of the ranch hands girls birthday party, it was easy for me dropped them off and the whole family, were standing there with their knives, ready to work, had a coke with them and came home.
