If I'm being honest, I'm still searching for Rifle Nirvana. A big piece of RN for me is simplicity. I'm getting cranky in my old age and am getting to a place where constant tinkering is driving me nuts trying to get itsy bitsy groups from a sporter weight rifle shooting hunting bullets. My latest definition of RN is an accurate, read sub MOA, 2 rifle battery that covers my hunting needs from antelope to elk, weighs 7 to 7.75 lbs with repeatable tracking scope attached. It exists in several forms but I remain searching for some #$@^#^$ reason. I'm hoping to find "it" before I die Mr. Winters: Your Quest and Frustration can be squelched with BETTER than your minimum requirements in a 5 letter Brand name. Accurate, Great Trigger, Light, --> lope----elk. One n Done. I'm not alone, there are many of us here on this Forum who found RN. A Clue...... T. . . A. There are multiple cartridges to accomplish the taskS. Take the plunge. The water's GREAT. Jerry

B Now excuse me while I go shoot myself since I've just come to realize how monotonous my life really is. Now there's as good a reason to get a new gun as I have ever seen.

Anyway, I find the fact that some spend multi thousands annually on this is interesting.
o p c I assure you that I have NEVER spent even 1 K on rifles IN 1 year. Now I've traded multiple rifles and or handguns in single years but NOT spent KKK in a single year. I'm not offended just making clarification. Jerry

I don't. Most of the rifles I use are ones I bought in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I haven't bought any new ones in the last two years.

Okay, I'll admit what most of the guys on this thread won't admit to- I'm a flawed man with lots of wants but very few needs these days. I see a shiny object and I want it. If I can find a way to afford it without ticking off the woman too much, I set a plan in motion and get it. If I can't find a way to buy it, I'll build it... one way or another if I want something bad enough I find a way to get it and practicality be damned...
I've got more than enough guns, boats, fishing equipment, hunting and camping gear, trucks, trailers, and even a hot rod I built just because I wanted to and found a way to afford it... never gave a thought to having to explain it or justify it.... except to the wife...

Jerry, Yeah, well I had to give up on the motorcycles... I was a danger to myself due to lack of self control on a bike so I had to stop riding a while back..... Bob

I don't. I shoot the same Remington 700 in 30/06 that I bought with money I earned from delivering newspapers back in 1971. Every scrape, nick, scratch or mar in the stock reminds me of past hunts. The worn bluing reminds me of the time spent in a scabbard hunting elk on horseback. That big gouge is from falling in an avalanche shoot during a mtn goat hunt. It worked just fine a couple weeks ago on an antelope hunt. Bob

Changes only happen when the safe becomes full - I've earlier managed to fit 8 rifles into a 4 rifle safe, built a frame to hang a couple off the back of the door. I got a bigger safe now and haven't sold anything for a while to make room for new acquisitions. I did trade my CZ for an Anschutz though.
Whatever you said...everyone knows you are a lying jerk. That's a bold assertion. Point out where you think I lied. Well?

To me, one of the funnest things about hunting is trying out new rifles, cartridges, and bullets. If I had to hunt with the same rifle every year, I'd probably have given up hunting years ago.
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

Some rifle shooters change rifles as often as Jeffrey Toobin changes hands - Thumbelina and her four sisters.

I dont "change".
I buy.
Because I get a good deal, because it's "The Perfect Rifle", because I need it to...
The problems I have now are I use them less, and have a few. A new rifle requires a scope, maybe dies, brass, etc. That entails more spending.
And with everything covered by multiple rifles from 22 to 30 (except 25 and 270) along with a 338, it's getting hard to convince myself to buy something.
But, if someone wanted to sell a T3 SS in '06 or 308, well, 25-06 or 270 or 7mm mag, cheap!
I need one.
My Sweede needs... a bit more.
The Hunter bought new from an individual is a 7mag. But it's new, why bang it up?
Why in the hell do I buy guns?
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

I don't change rifles, they change owners.
Only own two guns that were purchased new. They like it here.

I think its the case the last 25-30 years people have been affluent enough to follow fashion and indulge options for fun. I remember when I was into big game rifles way back, you might have your setup of normal guns, but just 1 or maybe 2 big guns in the safe. Look at posters now, guys are 'accumulating' a dozen big calibres or different guns in the same calibre(!) . They swipe a credit card a few times a year and collect them like baseball caps. Which is no harm it you can afford it...but I dont think this will be supportable in the coming future. Collections for the next generation will look a lot more like they did in the 70's and 80's- A few guns that do the job and change hands less. There will still be affluent guys and hardcore enthusiasts with a safe full of guns, they were always there, but they will go back to being the exception.

I can churn an awful lot of rifles for the price of a Harley, Hot Rod, or boat.
Rifles, traditional bows, and hunting has been my only hobby for the last 25 years.
