I've killed a ton of chukar and pheasants with a 20 gauge Benelli. Some quail too. And grouse. Found a load she likes, bought a couple cases of ammo, and went hunting. Even used the same gun on geese and ducks.

You get the picture.

Been hankering for a 20 semi auto and this doesn't suprise me . Lots of bismuth and steel on my basement shelves .

Upland game I prefer a 20g or a 16g for pheasant. Both have been fine killers at normal ranges.

I have had days where I just suck and I’ve been known to grab my A-5 Light 12 to prove a point that it’s not me, but rather the shotgun. Laffin 😎

Most often carry a Beretta 626 SxS 20 for upland in open country. Next would be 391 20ga. For Ruffs and Woodcock I use a Franchi AL 48 28ga skeet choke and usually just 7.5 or 8 shot AA or Fed Gold Medal.

ALL I HAVE SHOT for the last 20 years is a 20 gauge... I used to think I needed a 12 to kill things with.

I still shoot a tricked out SBE1 for turkeys but one of the 20 Superposeds is all I shoot at ducks and doves and pheasants... as with any other gauge, choke and pellet size are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than bore diameter... So there.

No reason not to shoot a 20ga for upland game. Ducks too. I do tend to look askance at a friend of mine who shoots a SC model of some sort of Citori with 30" bbls and extended choke tubes but "he's shooting a 20ga." I think he might have missed the point of the sub bore but to each his own...

I'm 58 now and was an extremely avid and active upland game hunter up until about 5 years ago.. I've had 5 bird dogs in the sum of my life so far (two of the same age group once).. Hoping I have one more left in me as I get closer to retirement age and have the desert SW in mind as my retirement spot.

Hunted with a lot of friends and folks over the years and the 12 gauge was by far the most popular round with them.. I always packed a 20 gauge and still would.. I've hunted SD, KS, IA, MO, IN, IL, MI and OH many times and across all seasons Primarily pheasant and quail, but a good bit of grouse and woodcock as well.. The 20 gauge did everything a 12 could do at a lesser weight and easier handling package.. Ithaca SKB 280 SXS choked improved and modified or a Remington 1100 LT20 choked straight modified (fixed - old gun)..

I still have both guns and intend to put them to work once again.. No need for a 12 gauge in the uplands in my opinion..
