I have been drinking more than I wanted or should for a very long time. I keep Whiskey out of the house most times because if I got it- I drink it. Will get off work and grab a beer out of reflex. Noticed I would wedge a second one in if dinner was more than ten minutes away- then wine with dinner and if I had any harder stuff- have one or sometimes two after wards. Nodding off on the couch became common. Was thinking that wasn't cool to the wife for me to do that. . Slept like crap for the longest time and noticed weight gain. Last week my wife was in the hospital and I could not stay there overnight. I skipped a day or two completely then kept it to a single beer ( although two days I slipped a bit) and figure in the past say two weeks had ten or more fewer drinks in me during that time than I would had. I feel better, slept better and dropped a pound or two and starting to feel a little more in charge of myself. Should not be hard to keep up but then again it is SO easy to falter.

The thing I have noticed is that a couple of drinks in the evening really messes with my sleep.
Besides, you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. ;-{>8

Had a couple drinks w Sunday dinner. None since.
Have been a lifelong headache sufferer. Have headache, dont drink. Not that the booze make it worse, just dont drink. Not in any celebratory mood.
Can party like a rockstar or leave it alone for months. Just depends.
The ol lady says one drink and shes half gone. Buzz doesnt come easy or cheap for me, dangit

I'm much like the OP. I might have a drink three days in a row and then might not or two weeks. I found my way into the bourbon hobby about this time last year, its been alot of fun and I can take it or leave it. I don't drink to get intoxicated or even for a buzz, I drink because it's social or because it tastes good. I feel bad for people who can't do it like that, and think we'd be in a good place as a nation if we put some medical science behind why I'm like I am, and others are like they are.

I drank for many years, always whiskey, with a beer back. For the last ten or so years, no hard liquor. I do buy a half rack of beer about once a month, seems to work just fine! I also come from two alcoholic parents. I dont know if its passed from one generation, to another but I sure liked booze when younger.

Two shots of scotch after dinner for 1-2 weeks. Then nothing for 1-2 weeks. I sleep far better with one or no drinks.
One too many drinks you get the 2-3 am wake up call from plunging blood sugar levels. Sleep is more important now than drinking.

I only drink when I post on the campfire.... or is it, I only post when I drink? hmmmmm I had to quit for 3 months cuz the liquor store wouldn't sell to me without a mask..... sons of bitches, finally found a store that would sell to me.... and now I can once again post. Truthfully I didn't really feel any different without drinking. Then again my rule these days if I feel any effects from alcohol the next day I overdid it. Hangovers are no bueno

I like beer. Mostly good beer but will stoop to the lower cost stuff sometimes. One or two a day usually, sometimes I quit just to make sure I can.

The poster from Alaska will understand, southerners (lower 48) won't. In my youth I worked in construction camps in northern BC. I learned early,21, it was a good idea to dry out once in while.

I didn't drink for about 10 years because of health issues. I started again probably 4 years ago, had a few here and there. This year though I've been having at it, whiskey and I drink to get fugged up. Don't care for beer any more which is funny because I drank pretty much just beer for 20 couple years.
I need to quit for a while which is just what I'm gonna do. Soon lol
