I've poked around a large number of gun shops and "places that sell ammo" in the last 3 weeks. Cabela's to bars and the only ammo to be consistently found is 6.5 and 6 Creedmoor. Not a ton but multiple boxes on the shelf at these places.

Buy a Tikka. Less fuss. You'll be better off and happier in the long run. I'd look at sportsman's and find a good deal on a superlite if I were in your shoes. Mine shoots pretty good, with a little bedding and stainless recoil lug upgrade...: Looks like how my Tikka shoots.
Yup.

As others have said the tikka. But I’d also be looking at the mauser at that price
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I enjoy Remington rifles as well, but I am unsure of the quality of anything of current manufacture

Given the current state of affairs, buying a rifle that one needs to also buy bullets, brass, and possibly powder for could present some challenges. I would hate to have a rifle with no ammo to shoot........
I just recently looked for deer and elk worthy 6.5 bullets and couldn't find any for sale......

I’ve done a lot of buying and selling of rifles over the last few years, but generally have stayed with the same cartridges. First, I see very little to no difference in how they perform on game, and changing to something totally new adds a pile of expense to the exercise. Now with the “troubles” upon us again, I find myself well-supplied with everything I need to keep shooting as much as I want or need to. Even have the stuff required to substitute for rimfires, though that ain’t gonna be a problem for a good, long, time. MLs, airguns, and a couple of arrow flingers are waiting in the wings too; even some slingshots and a blowgun😛. Guess I’m a confirmed Projectile Loony.
