8x57 Mauser. Old guy in town had a gun shop, sold it to me, told me it was a 7mm. Being a kid, I didn’t onow any better, so I bought some 7x57 ammo, and away we went. Hit the paper once out of five times at 25 yards. Bullet landed sideways, if I remember right. Took it to another shop and found out it was an 8 mm. Shot pretty good after I got the right ammunition...

My first was a Mosin-Nagant military rifle in 7.62x54R "Russian," purchased in 1965 through the mail from an ad in the back of AMERICAN RIFLEMANA for $10. One of my father's rifle-loony friends helped me "sporterize" it, and it shot pretty well.
It was also the first centerfire rifle round I handloaded for, using a Lee Loader and Norma brass.

308, Remington Model 600 with the plastic rib and laminated stock. Bought new off the shelf.
A 308 with a laminated stock? Wow, that's a rarity. I'd always heard only the magnums were laminated.

Bored and looking to generate some data just for the fun of it.
The first center-fire rifle that was really and truly yours (not a family gun or loaner) - for what cartridge was it chambered?
Mine was .303 British
mine too.
