I've got an old 7 1/2 inch Uberti 44 Magnum with carefully regulated fixed sights. If I want to clobber something with
a handgun between spitting distance and 140 yards, that's what I reach for,

Not one I use for much other than plinking, but my Hi Standard Model B 22 LR with 6 3/4" barrel makes it look easy. It was my uncle's who passed before I was born. I heard it was his military training sidearm but don't know if thats true or not, although I know they were used for that.

Most accurate pistol in the safe is the Performance Center SW41. It will split playing cards on edge at 10 yards. It's super grumpy about ammo, CCI only, and it has to be spotlessly clean. From the holster, G34.

I hardly ever hit anything with any of my pistols.

Do shoot accurately with several of them though.

Carry a Colt 1911 more than anything, time-wise.

But the Ruger MKIII bull barrel Target 5 1/2" that rides with me on the ranch has killed much more than any other handgun I've owned. It would literally have hundreds, (maybe a couple thousand) of notches on it, if I notched, that is. grin

My family has a few of those Ruger Mk III bull barrelled guns. Damn things are the most accurate handgun I've ever shot, and so easy to shoot well, at least for me. Pop cans offhand at up to and past 100 yards was common when I was a teen.

I was out bird hunting with my older brother one day at age 12. Suddenly he handed me his shotgun and drew his Ruger. He shot, and then he paced off 132 yards. A cottontail, right though the head. A few deer were killed with same gun for subsistence purposes as well. He could always shoot it a bit better than I could.

Always been curious, what's the best shot placement on deer.......when pressed with a 'minimalist' tool

I have heard they often will stand their or near the shot, if hit thru the lungs, then fall over. Anyone? Obviously head shots work.

Um.. I might have known a guy who shot a doe in the eye with a 1948 S&W K22 at 40 yards and dropped it..

Here's another Baer, a .45 Long Slide. It shoots like a rifle. I thought my Gold Cup was accurate until I traded for this one.

There are two that I would grab that come to mind.

Both happen to have factory guarantees of accuracy that happen to be the same.

1.5"s at 50 yards.

The first is my Baer 1911.

The second is a Classic DX Model 29. 5" .44 Magnum.

I happen to have a 5" M29 Classic non "DX" version, with an RDO on it, and it is quite fun in terms of driving tacks.

macky, If you need matching accesories, I have a sweater with the same pattern as your baer grips. Would sell it cheap, as I haven't worn it since the '50's. I won't give up the matching smoking jacket unless I can get the big bucks, tho....

That guy was a good shot......and that's a Classic K-22. Assuming a 6" which is probably most common.

Nice to see Mackay - guessing you read a bit of Bob Milek, Skeeter, and Keith back in the day? I know you were handgunning long ago. Seen you post mostly revolvers, any stints with XP-100s or TC Contenders? I played with TC's a good bit in college.

My 10" 30-30 punchd a clover leaf the size of a pencil eraser, 3 shots, 2x EER at 50 yds.....measures under .2 C-t-C. Oh, it was RP 150 Corelokt factory ammo of all things! Who knew!
