So my wife has been after me to get some Christmas lights on the house. At 50 I can say for certain that there is one way I will not die. I will never die after falling trying to put up lights on my roof. So, she had someone come out and give us a quote for putting them up. $2,200!! Are you fricking kidding me? The neighbor’s across the street were put in by the same company and apparently cost $5k. WTF?

I don’t know what I was expecting. But I figured less than $1k. Which was still high, but I might do it if I was in the right mood.

Dying while doing something that your wife told you to do would make her feel guilty for the rest of her life. I don't think you have a choice. Tell her that you will probably die and that will haunt her for-everrrr.
Its easy for me to say. I was a roofer for several years so I can go up and down ladders and hang off roofs without any concern. Then I quote Proverbs 25:24 at her.

My wife and daughter decorate inside and out. Takes a day to put everything up and week to take most of the decorations down. We live a mile back in the woods and can't see any lights besides our own. As long as it doesn't involve me I'm good, not going to win against those two anyway.

My place was a blackout while obama was in office. This may be the last year for lights.

I stopped climbing on the roof to hang lights years ago. If i can’t reach it with my feet on the ground, it doesn’t need decorating.

Brother in law has a separate service for his Christmas lights. I dont even know how many he puts up. One year he put 50k lights in one tree. He used to start round Halloween putting them up. Before LED lights became the norm he would only run them from 8PM until 11pm due to the increase in his electric bill. Nowdays its not so bad. About 1/4 of my attic storage in my garage is some of his Christmas stuff. He has untold totes of lights and decorations. His Christmas day is the day after Christmas when all the decorations and lights are 50-70% off haha. He's been in a bunch of local newspapers and such over the years.

Just put a pretty green wreath on the front door and let it go at that. Merry Christmas! grin

I put up Christmas lights every year.

Anybody that doesn't is Jewish.

Or lazy.

I'm lazy. I'll help decorate the tree, but that's it. Wife hangs a buncha lighted chit on the deck railings and doors the day after Thanksgiving, leaves them on 24/7 for several months, and calls me out on the electric bill if I leave the room long enough to take a piss without turning off the lights while I'm gone.

Ain't gonna win that one either..... along with those several moving boxes of tangled light strings. She just buys new ones.... .

One year she spent the better part of 2 days stringing lights, then left on a remote job. The next day Tripper Lab, then just over a year old, spent an hour chewing everything up while I was at work.

He never chewed on electric cords after that tho - you could see right where he finally got nailed good. Good dog. He died at 12 1/2, several years ago. I miss that dog!

Especially when she starts stringing lights....... smile

The only true cost of having a dog is its death.
