Thankful that my parents paid the money to get me away from those nuns and out of the foster system.

Thankful that I am raising my family a couple miles away from my folks.

Thankful that when the nuns called and offered me for sale....that my folks said OK to a native baby.

They actually asked if they would be okay with that!

Geeze.

Doesn't say much for their judgement.

They were desperate.

I wasn't black or asian. Good enough!

I might not have much but at least I have my dignity.

All my confused dna relatives are from Alaska.

Somehow......the DNA made it to Butte Montana.

On this day each year, I always ponder what I'm thankful for.

This year, I'm thankful that I am loved by the best person I have ever known, despite my many flaws. I'm thankful for the home I sit comfortably in as I write these words. I'm thankful for the small handful of good people I have the privilege of calling friends. I'm thankful for the trio of puppies who are my pack, and would die for me, as I would them. I'm thankful that I will eat like a king of old this day-as I do every day--and not simply subsist on a diet of sweet potatoes or cassava, which much of the world does. I'm thankful that I am an "essential" worker, and have not been proscribed by the criminal agenda that seeks to destroy free thought and expression, and by proxy the lives and liberties of the people of not only a once great nation, but of the entire world.

I'm thankful that I have the brains and the balls to call bullshit when I see or hear it. And I'm thankful that I have the heart and soul to stand, to not be silenced, to speak my mind, and even to be wrong once in a while. I'm thankful that I have the integrity to admit when I am.

I'm thankful that I and everyone I care about are more essential to a positive world than FB and it's "fact-checkers" will ever be.

I'm thankful for every breath I take. I'm thankful for every sunrise, every sunset, every storm, every starry night, every warm fire, and every moment of contemplation I've ever--or will ever--witness or experience.

I'm thankful to have been granted this gift of life, this fleeting moment of being part of the universe experiencing itself for good and for ill.

In fact, I'm more than thankful. I'm grateful.

Every minute of every hour of every day.

I'm grateful, and take nothing for granted. Not one single [bleep] thing.

I'm entitled to nothing, and yet in the scope of human history, and even the context of most human lives right now, today, I have everything.

And I am [bleep] grateful. Most of all, I am grateful for all who came before me, who sweated and toiled and bled and died so that I might have the opportunity to witness the grandeur of this earth, to travel, to meet good people and bad, to read a book, hear a song, watch a movie, drink a cold beer, eat a cheeseburger, and dance with a lovely woman. To be a human being with the luxury of living life without the burden of facing constant existential threats. To live and not just subsist or survive. To expand my mind and heart and soul.

For these things I give thanks each and every day. Today, I give thanks tenfold.

Now toss me a beer and crank it!

So your folks forgot where they bought you from?? Did they go to an orphan baby auction of some sorts? Or you saying your Eskimo mom ended up in butte Montana and had you? You and deflave were orphan buddies? Cause he was adopted by a white couple from Minnesota.

At some point it becomes second nature to be thankful for all of it without really thinking about it,.....just thankful for consciousness.

They purchased me from the main Nun Hive in Helena.

My Eskimo-ish mom delivered me in Butte. The nuns gathered me up and dumped me in foster care after a while.


My folks got a good deal.
