Because I've owned over 150 firearms. If I had all those now I don't know what I'd do with them?

I'll add another thing, I goes with my being tight. We live frugally. Well, we don't make many purchases over $50/item that are not needed. Haven't borrowed in 20 years, so...We really don't need money.
Thank God it has stayed that way. I often mentioning selling some stuff, but why.
It eats nothing, value climbs, and the money would just get spent. Wasted.
If I ever actually am in need, 1/3 or more could leave. Easily. Before those with meaning would even be in danger.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

In my youth I didn’t have any extra money. I had to sell one to buy one I thought I liked better. Hasbeen +1, 'cept it didn't stop in my youth. Sometimes I sell stuff 'cause I realize I have more [bleep] than I need, more than I'm using, and it becomes an anchor, a dead weight pulling me down. I get rid of it. Then some time later I realize the need has returned. While yeah, I wish I still had that first one I got rid of, I really did have to get rid of it or I wouldn't have made it to the place where there was a need again. Tom

To me they are objects and tools. I don't fall in love with any inanimate object. Some, I like better than others. I buy them, try them out, enjoy them and then, usually, end up selling them and trying another. I guess, for me, that's as much my hobby as reloading, hunting, fishing, etc. I get as much enjoyment out of buying, testing and then re-selling gear as I do other hobbies.

I sold a few because I needed the money at the time. Two I regret, the others, not so much. I recently traded a 1895 Marlin 45-70 that I loved for a 336 and some cash, because my neck can't take the jolt, and I couldn't force myself to reload them with cat sneeze loads....there's just too much room for powder in there!. I had the 336 re-bored and chambered for 38-55 and now I can handle it. I call it my "mini 45-70. Sometimes things in your life change and you have to make some tough choices.....but this one turned out pretty sweet...

I loaned a shotgun to a friend. He sold it because he needed money. I told him I would have given him all the money he needed. He is still my friend. It's only money.
News for you sport, that is no friend.

I've sold a few guns I wish I hadn't. I just wasn't shooting them at the time (and I probably still wouldn't be today, but I still want them back! ). This is why I have a rule now. NEVER SELL A GUN. Ever. A friend of mine will sell ANYTHING. He often sells guns that he wishes he hadn't. But that's just the way he is. He now has a Ruger rifle that is insanely accurate (yes... a Ruger! ), and he says he'll never sell it.... we'll see...

Buying, selling or trading firearms over the last 45 years, has enabled me to play with just about everything out there, at least the firearms I wanted to. Had 3 that had much sentiment, and gave those to my son so they stay within the family. Ive owned literally hundreds, hell, Ive owned around 18 AR type rifles over the years, and now, don't own a one. Like one guy mentioned, it has been like reloading to me, a hobby and I had a ball getting new ones, shooting them, altering, refinishing etc, then traded off or sold, to get another one or two. My old trading partner and I at one time late in the night, had 13 firearms laid out in the gunroom, made a swap, five for eight as I remember. Are there a few I wish I had back, hell yeah; some really unique ones, custom ones, and very accurate ones. Only reason I'd like em back, is they would be worth a mint in todays world and I could really make some equitable trades or sales in my favor!

In my case it has been a temporary lack of good judgement, which comes back to haunt me when I think of some of the ones I sold.

Very few make it to core group status with me. All others in orbit are subject to being sent down the road. I would probably have about 85 95 pistols, rifles, and shotguns if I held onto all of em. Do I regret selling some . In ways yes In ways no
I have 6 currently. Need 4 more 10 is a good # and will cover all bases for me.

News for you sport, that is no friend. Good answer. My take is that the "friend" is a thief.
