A friend of mine said he was going to try & melt down some lead from old batteries, I told him not to do it. I've never tried but I've always heard it was dangerous & although it was possible it wasn't worth the time, thoughts?

Absolutely not. Poisonous fumes result which will leave your friend dead.

Arsine and Stabine gases=pretty lethal in small areas.
Its caused by calcium in the alloy used to reduce sulfation on the plates.
Plus, it kinda mucks up the alloy.

That's what I thought, it was something about poisonous gases but couldn't remember for sure. I'll tell him again, thanks!

I melted down some battery lead and made bullets, it made me very sick with a headache that lasted for a week.. and I never had a headache in my life up till then.. the bullets were very hard and difficult to load in a muzzle loader.. its not worth all the problems it causes Don't do it. I was too poor to buy lead at the time is why I did it.

Like the song says "what part of no don't you understand". Some folks are so thick skulled they never get the message.

The only parts of batteries i have ever messed with is the posts. The plates are almost worthless and way to dangerous .

take battery to recycle place, they pay you for them, take money and buy clean lead at same recycle place,
win win!
Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

In the 1960's when I didn't know any better I did melt down some batteries. You end up with almost no lead, even if not dangerous it's not worth it.
