Now there is a successful recipe.

Do as you will......just don't expect me to be happy about your student getting his loan forgiven.

Favorite Uncle was a gambler. Was a medic in Europe in WW 2. Came home after the war with enough money to buy a house and new car. Keep at it all his life. Would bet you on which bird flew off a power line first. Porker and pool was his favorite games. Hasbeen

Yes, I know the horrendous odds playing Powerball. Pick up a ticket once in a great while. Fun to daydream...no expectations. Can't win if you don't play.

A fellow had a ranch in Montana that was into gambling. He had a place in Vegas and seemed to do ok.

His name was Binion and his place was the Horseshoe.

major red flags lol Kind of surprised as you been around

Whats his criminal history? You know the old adage: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. A strange guy meets your daughter and is going to just give her 40 to 50k for nursing school? Sounds like someone with control issues. Any guy that will just throw around a lot of cash for a gal is always going to want something in return. Tell him to show you his 1040's from 2019, 2018, 2017. Did he receive a W2 G from the casino from his earnings? Schedule C when he files file taxes?

Sounds like major BS to me

Old mountain boy that my dad worked with in the steel mill back in 60's and 70's, used to drive up to Michigan each fall. Would buy a pickup truck load of apples. Bring 'em home to the mountains and resell them. Nice little profit for a weekends' worth of driving. One year he drove up. Got to drinking with some local boys. Got into a poker game. When it was all over, not only did he lose his grub stake for the apples, lost the title to his truck as well. But no worries. Them Michigan boys were nice enough to buy him a bus ticket back to KY !

Your ‘rewarded’ comment had dual meaning.

5 successful sons.....4 grandsons.

If we ever had a daughter or grand-daughter......a gambler would be my last choice.

But, maybe we’re just a little per/tick/u/ler.

Back in 1992, the Chief of Police in Detroit named William Hart got caught stealing $2.3 Million from the Police Drug Forfeiture Fund. He used the money to support three separate mistresses plus a wife. When asked where he got all the funds to support the mistresses he said they were winnings from his weekly poker games with his buddies. When asked what the poker stakes were he truthfully said..”.10 to .25 a hand”. At that rate, it would have taken him 200+ Years, assuming he won every hand he played. He got 10 years in prison. Ten years later the Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kirkpatrick got 30 years in prison for years of bribery and kickbacks. Both were pigmentally gifted Democrats.

I have known 2 successful professional gamblers in my 50 years of living in LV. Both were very bright w/ phenomenal memories and only gambled at what they considered skill games, mainly poker and gin. They considered it a job and made enough to support their passions and only worked 6 months of the year. They despised the environment and most of the people they played against. A successful gambler needs a good tax accountant and a secure system for dealing w/ large amounts of cash. Many of the high$ games are done w/ a broker and no cash is involved at the game to decrease the risk of robbery. Las Vegas attracts predators like blood attracts sharks.

I have never known a dealer who liked their job.

YMMV

Friends just spent two weeks at the Bellagio and the room was only $140 for the full time! That is not a nightly rate! Some great deals available. But serious gamblers are comped.

You are about 30 years too late to see the real Las Vegas...

The way it is now is a sight to see... But it falls way short of what made Vegas, Vegas. wink

Have fun!

Playing hearts, my wife can tell what in my hand, based on what I have played.

That was all the convincing I needed to never gamble.

Bunch of California (SF, mostly) Eyetlians have Bristol Bay drift fishing permits. Probably 30-40 in all. They all tie up together at the same dock-location in Naknek, side by side. That section of the dock is known as Little Italy. They don't make anyone else feel especially welcome.

The one season I worked as a deckhand out there, I was waiting in the terminal for my airplane ride back to Anchorage and overheard a dad and 3 of his sons talking. All with thir own boats and permits.

Seems the fourth son (not present) had lost his permit AND boat at the table the night before.

"I don't think Gino ought to gamble when he's drinking" (or maybe it was the other way around)....

Understatement? Probably a quarter million right there, plus whatever season's earnings he pissed away prior to thowing the permit and boat title on the table. Hopefully on different hands at least.

I love nickle, dime, quarter, 3 raise limit. Made $34.60 one night starting with $3. Probably lost 10 times that over 40 years - I don't play often, or well, but I like it - and that can afford. Good entertainment.

I did have one night tho, I could not lose. Regularly drew to inside straights, a couple times needing two and getting them - got one Royal Flush. I maye lost 4-5 hands all night.

Won 10 boxes of matchsticks off those two suckers. smile. Twice. We each started with 5 boxes, I had to refund theirs to keep playing. I still think they were cheating.

When you have lost your pre-set limit, stop!
