When I was growing up my mother had a chronic disease she knew would prove fatal at some point. She ran away from her alcoholic & abusive POS father as a young teen and wanted us to never doubt we were loved.
As a young guy wanting to be “cool” it could be embarrassing to hug, kiss, and say “I love you” every single time we parted ways. She has been gone 17 yrs this past Pearl Harbor Day and I’ve long ago lost count of the times I’ve imagined the sensation of her soft cheek on mine as she kissed me and told me how much she loved me.
Now my wife & kids get the same treatment and I don’t care if they feel awkward about it!

Not going into the details, but one hell of a man took a bad hit this week, and I’m torn up inside that there’s nothing I can do but watch and wait now. Life changed in the blink of an eye. I don’t have regrets except for things long passed.

I'm confused, you say you should pass on hope to your children, then you say you should live on your knees. I don't think showing your kids how to live on your knees is a way to pass on hope, but I'm not you and thankfully neither were the Founding Fathers.
