I love my 35-30 wildcat...does that count? 30/30 parent? Do you have specific dies or use a combo of other dies to make it work

The 35 Whelen in the Rem pump has a big following amongst hound hunters in Oz. These guys hunt Sambar deer that are large deer that are hard to put down. It has become an iconic rifle and calibre amongst those hunters.
Remington dropped the chambering a few times but demand was so strong for the combination here that our local distributor had special runs made to continue to satisfy local demand. Who knows what will happen now with the demise of Remington.

Don't like them at all Have 2, LH Ruger 77 MK 2 custom barrel35 Whelen AI, Rem 7600 35 Whelen. They seem to kill above their paygrade with standard bullets 225 to 250 gr on bigger game. Old picture Rem 7600 35 Whelen 250 Speer Shot a good-sized black bear with 225 gr bullet quartering shot very thick brush looked like someone threw a paint bucket of blood with moose it just works

Great round! I like it for big hogs as it will usually leave a blood trail if the hog happens to get in the brush. For deer in the thick it has plenty of penetration for any angle, breaking bones or otherwise. Favorite bullets are the 225 Woodleigh, 250 gr. Hornady RN, 250 gr. Speer. I have some 250 gr. Hornady Spire points, 250 Partitions and some 225 Sierra's but have been very satisfied with he bullets I have already used. I used the 200 gr. Hornady Spire point on a few animals but when that box of bullet ran out I just started using the heavier bullets. My rifle is a FN Mauser with a 19 inch barrel and an off brand synthetic stock topped with a 4 power Leupold. Great shooter, not too heavy and handy. If I were not destined to test every bullet diameter out there and play with them all this rifle would get a lot more use.

One weird thing I've found with the 35's I've owned is how accurate they have been. My 35 whelen has been one of the most consistently accurate rifle I have ever owned. Maybe JB is reading and can chime in, as I had a 338/06 that was 1/2 MOA with many loads, my Ruger 350 RM was a solid shooter as well. JB had some things to say about the reason larger bores often surprise folks with accuracy. MY thoughts had been consistent powder burn given generous bore volume, but JB talked about the bullets, perhaps the concentrity of the bullet jackets.....if he sees my posts I am sure he will jump in to explain. They do shoot, and are without a doubt very effective killers, often with exits and copious blood trail that's rarely needed and very short if so.

I had a sordid affair with one 35 in my past. Took a first gen 7 STW Sendero and rebarreled it to the 358 STA, for the off chance I might go for a big bear some day. When the time came, it was ready, willing, & able.....

Circa 1930's Remington Model 30 rebored to .35 Whelen. Savage 99F in .358. Marlin 336 in .35 Re.
I like them.
